The family of Maya Kowalski, the subject of Netflix’s “Take Care of Maya,†allege that a report of child abuse from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital led to Beata Kowalski taking her own life. The Kowalski’s are suing doctors, the Department of Children and Families, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for $200 million dollars in connection to Beata’s death. According to court documents, the child abuse case against Beata was pushed forward after Maya’s physician confirmed her condition, complex regional pain syndrome, was not the fault of her parents. During the time Beata was separated from Maya, she took her own life.

What happened to the dads first daughters mother? And why would Beata be found, hung, with a syringe stuck in her? That part is odd to me. It does seem as if the kids are a little withdrawn from him as well. Her S notes didn't mention him either, except for the part that her sister gets the kids if anything happens to him as well. That's a bit fishy.
Mr Anderson passed the bar exam?
How in the world did Mr Anderson pass the bar exam?
I am so beyond unimpressed, and slightly embarrassed, by watching and listening to Mr Anderson. Maya's lead counsel. He is beyond unorganized. Doesn't understand how to ask questions in the courtroom. Asks completely irrelevant questions to certain witnesses, that would be good questions to others, yet doesn't ask the witnesses the questions that would apply to them. Fails to present the defense with evidence at appropriate times. Forgets the questions he just asked. Loses his train of thought so quickly. Interrupts his own witnesses. Frustrates the judge, constantly. Doesn't object properly to the defense. It will be a miracle if Maya wins this case
Wow this judge, it a jerk, cahoots between DCF,hospital, and court systems, they are bullying , the rolling his eyes and shaking his head, he it out of line and should be fired, all because they fed⬆ï¸Â
Is the female defense attorney related to Elaine Bredehoft?🤆they got the same vibe
Could the judge make it anymore obvious hes just agreeing with the defense?
It is so incredibly wrong that the judge is taking legal actions on the advice of the defendant’s council.
I want someone to do a tally of how many times the judge overrules/sustains with the defense and then with the plaintiff. I get the plaintiffs lawyers are clearly not as prepared but the way the judge clearly favors the defense, even with his tone of voice and his obvious disgust of the plaintiffs lawyers. I really hope he gets kicked off the bench.

This judge’s conduct toward the plaintiff’s family attorney is appalling.
The Social Worker wasxa stammering nightmare who sustained a ruling at one point and at another point told the defense to answer a question in response to one of their questions 🤆I'm watching this trial for the 1st time, a month after it happened and its frustrating on many levels
Does anyone know what the two people in the back of the kids wearing the headphones doing? What are their jobs for the court if anything?
The elder lady social worker is a little ditsy.
How heartbroken 💆Baeta was over all what All Children's Hosoital (John Hopkins Hospital), Dr. Sally Smith and the other Doctors at JHP did to her, Maya and the family. 😢
I am watching the trial now and one thing that is driving me nuts is the rustling of attorney's papers! I have my headphones on and he constantly moving his papers and it hurts my ears!!😮
I don’t get why ACH attorneys are so aggressive in their questioning. It doesn’t make them look good.
If I were in the jury and I saw drs and law enforcement spoken to in that tone of voice, I’d think it was a personal attack. Not an attempt to ‘prove the truth’ (which we all obviously know is nothing that comes out of their mouths. But the jury doesn’t know that!). I don’t know what they think that achieves in a case like this.
If she and father passed, sisters have custody
Maya looked so sick and exhausted this day. I can't imagine the emotional toll the days of testimony had on her CRPS and mental health.
And it broke my heart how Jack slipped back into present tense talking about Beata. The effect of all this on him was so palpable. A broken man who loved his wife, and misses her, deeply. Then Maya's ordeal and illness on top of it, having to try to be strong for her and Kyle…. awful.
Omg that social worker . God help us all
Jack testified
This was hard to watch. So many objections and Anderson cannot keep exhibits straight or maintain his line of questioning. Anderson is easily distracted and forgets the question he asked when asked to repeat it. This is very frustrating.
Trial starts 08:00
I know a lot are saying the judge is bias towards the defence, and I agree, but I certainly don’t blame him for being frustrated with the Kawasaki attorney ☹ï¸Â
This trial is affecting Maya, she wasn’t in courtroom yesterday afternoon and neither this morning. I truly hope she is ok â¤
3:06:44 I hope she is retired. The amount of times questions had to be repeated to her for not remembering it, blew my mind. For a woman whose job it was to pay attention to detail, she was flighty and had the attention span of a squirrel. The defense not wanting any of this in was frustrating enough and her asking for the question to be repeated over and over when it was her only job to listen and answer made me skip her whole testimony.
everyone saying the Judge is not being biased to plaintiffs evidence requests is RIDICULOUS… sure, he is letting them enter all the minor/less impactful evidence, but hardly ANY heavy hitters! Anderson made a VERY good point that in his attempt to submit evidence with redacted information, defense objected everytime wanting FULL documents… its a disgusting tactic & the JUDGE is abetting this FULLY! is this the same Judge that wouldnt let Beata hug Maya?
They have a right to leave agaisnt medical advice but there are consquences? Those 2 statements should not be made together. You either have a right which means no consquences or you do not have a right.

Judge is getting hangry
Zander’s on is passionate but geez,he’s not great on direct as he seems rambling and unprepared. He uses too many works and loses meaning. Whitney is far better at it
Really good point that the meds found in the home actually prove there was No Doctor Shopping.
Weird that Jack’s attorney asked the policeman to read the parts of Beata’s emailed S note where she said that she wanted to hand off the parental rights to raise her 2 children to her sisters and brother in Chicago. Jack was not mentioned at all. Nope. No love and hugs for Jack. None.
Then the policeman read the part of her email to the judge where she said ACH, DCF, and the court “destroyed†her marriage. Why did the attorney bring that up? ðŸ¤â€Did Jack tell her he’s going to divorce her? It feels like her “Retaliation!†involves pitting the court against Jack. At the end, Beata had no love or trust for him left. That’s not the hospital’s fault.
Also, Beata can’t blame the hospital for their family’s “bankruptcy†either The ketamine docs—Kirkpatrick, Hanna, and Cantu—were the out-of-pocket, cash-up-front quacks who took their money and failed to heal Maya. The insurance company paid the JHACH hospital bills.
Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the plaintiffs’ team only made Jack look badâ€â€worse than his Leisure Suit Larry suitsâ€â€by bringing those S notes into evidence.
Plantiff bringing up isses already in evidence. Billing by the hour I guess.
Every question begins with "so"? Very bad grammer.
Plantiff seem so unorganized. Haven't they had years to work on this lawsuit?
I am shock how the Documentary twisted the facts of this case, to make Maya look like a victim. Jack is either stubborn like Baeta, or clueless af.
There was a syringe and she had it in. Did they test the contents? She may have set everything up started IV going and kicked stool. Maybe med to make it easier and hanging mage sure job done. Did they do tox screen?
Ahh, defense addressing that. Saying IV bag not sent to me’s office. But doesn’t seem makes a difference to this case if she used a drug or not. I was curious. But should test syringe and do toxically. The defense getting nasty sound angry. Wonder if ME will testify and say what tox result. Did test for ketamine?
Only used 2 oxycodone and then stopped.
I’m surprised able to get meds in via detective. Will have to wait and see if understand why bringing in. Also who’s meds are these? Mayas? If so she in hospital 3 months so of course not finished. Trying show what, that Beata didn’t take them?
To be fair to the plaintiff's lawyer he is probably not used to having to organise 1000+ documents .this is the clerk's job who sadly was off sick. Mr Anderson reminds me of Saul from Better call Saul series 😂. As I watch the trial I realise how blunt in their speech people in America are 😅. I am not used to that.
I hate to say it, but today, Maya’s team dropped the ball on these witnesses. They could have gone a mile with them and it was hard to watch. I hope day 8 is better…
