The family definitely missed several signs that she this poor little girl was being abused. At least her ordeal is now over. Maddy is a pretty girl, and I hope she has she's been able to put that trauma behind her, and has since had a happy, successful life!

I’m going to say it – she doesn’t have protective parents with good instincts. No way my parents would’ve been so complacent in this situation. The mother is pretending she was protective, but her actions say otherwise.
I don’t understand what’s so hard about teaching your children, from age 1, that no one is to touch their chest or bottom for any reason. By age seven or so, parents shouldn’t even see their children bathing or changing unless they’re disabled.
Rule number one talk with your children and second never leave a young little girl with a grown man! What an idiot he would have been on a T-shirt before dawn !
I feel like part of this is on the parents, too. There were more red flags flying than a communist nation and they still didn’t realize until it was almost too late.

I don't know if the mom realizes how bad pointing out all of these obvious signs makes them look. In fact, it might just be further indication of her lack of perception.
I feel so sorry for the girl, I hope she's surrounded and supported by family and loved ones. Five years of molestation…it's unbelievable. It stays with you. I, too, was sexual abused by a family friend when I was little, from ages 5-8. I never got justice. I'm happy this girl did. I hope she is doing well nowadays.
