Dallas, Texas — On September 24, 2023, at about 12:30 a.m., covert officers from Northeast Patrol saw a stolen vehicle traveling westbound on Garland Road near Peavy Road. The car had a paper tag that did not belong to the vehicle. The preliminary investigation determined officers followed the vehicle to the 1800 block of El Capitan. The covert officers then requested uniform officers to respond to the scene. When the uniform officers arrived, they saw the suspect, 55-year-old Michael Shirley outside of the stolen vehicle. Officers gave verbal commands for Shirley to stop and show his hands. Shirley pulled out a handgun and shot at the officers.

Officers returned fire at the suspect. Shirley got into the stolen vehicle and sped away Northbound on El Capitan into a nearby apartment complex and came out eastbound on Barnes Ridge, after cutting through the apartment complex. The suspect then hit a curb in the 2000 block of Barnes Bridge, flipping the car. Covert officers saw the suspect crash and approach the vehicle. The officers were wearing their heavy vest with police markings and deployed their patrol rifles when the suspect again fired at officers. Officers took cover behind a vehicle and returned fire again, hitting the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody and officers attempted first aid, but Shirley died at the scene. Shirley’s gun was recovered at the scene. Officers also found a woman handcuffed in the backseat, she was not injured in the crash and is not considered a suspect. The woman said she got into suspect’s vehicle voluntarily and as they drove around the suspect pulled her into the second row of the vehicle and handcuffed her to the seatbelt. Shirley has an extensive criminal history, including spending 8 years in prison for indecency with a child. Shirley had active warrants out for his arrest at the time of the chase and shooting.

  1. Excellent job by officers in eradicating the perp, restoring safety, reducing the prison population, and saving valuable, taxpayer- dollars. Great job by law enforcement.

  2. Did anyone else see from the drone shot someone in the back seat of the SUV waving at the drone? It was the handcuffed woman, she was in there the whole time! Miracle that she didn’t take any bullets…

  3. I 💯support our Texas LEO’s! Good job at taking care of business, but please, god , please, make the female officer spend more time at the range! There are so many classes, that available for little to no cost, that would help her improve on her shooting skills. Regardless, ma’am, you’re a badass for even taking on the job nowadays! Be safe!!!!

  4. We come to these channels and see firsthand what police did or didn't do through the lens of their body cameras. Transparency is good for everybody! So why the hell is the FBI hiding THEIR body camera videos when THEY kill someone? What makes them so special that they can enter someone's house, kill them, then never show the public that what they did was justified? The FBI should have to release their body camera videos to the public just like every other law enforcement agency does. And NO, they shouldn't be able to hide behind the "ongoing investigation" excuse. Most every shooting video we see on these channels is from an ongoing investigation. Yet every law enforcement agency releases their body camera videos except the FBI. THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE!!

  5. the woman got in voluntarily, this is sad, most likely for prostitution and this guys out after pedophilia charges? this guy decided to involve some poor woman for his insane actions? stop putting these people back on the street
