His bosses were right. He should not have engaged in being close friends with them anyway because he was her superior. There is a saying. Never mix business with pleasure. Technically, he made the mistake by being that close to his subordinates. Now the woman also should have never flirted with him because she was married to someone else. When co workers or bosses/subordinates become too close of friends, something bad can happen and it can affect the working relationship. I mean, if it was once in a while gathering in very rare occasions for dinner or for special celebration like once every year or two years, maybe it is okay, but not every week, not even every month. Now, let's say one of the co workers or superior moves onto another company, then maybe after a year or so it is okay to become a little bit closer as friends because at least work and personal life will not conflict and hang out maybe only once in a while like once a month or so.
