In this episode of Police Vlogs, we head to Jacksonville, Florida to
ride along with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit —
call sign Airhawk. We tour the hangar with Officer Carl Oder, get a
full walk-around of their Bell 407 fleet (including the brand new
Bell 407 GXi), and break down every piece of equipment that keeps
this unit operational.

From the FLIR ball with night vision, infrared, and high-def cameras,
to the halers, spotlights with infrared lenses, the float system for
over-water emergencies, and the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit —
Tactical Flight Officer Thomas walks us through how it all works.

Then we lift off on a live patrol shift. We listen to calls across
the city before getting dispatched to a missing 7-year-old, and we
get into the realities of flying patrol — laser strikes on aircraft,
coordinating altitude separation with JSO’s drone unit, and policing
a city surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the St. Johns River, and the
Intracoastal.
