‘I Lied’: Alex Murdaugh Admits to Lying to Investigators, Blames Drug Addiction

“Why did you lie?” Alex Murdaugh’s attorney Jim Griffin asked him referencing the numerous inconsistencies in the disgraced lawyer’s timeline from June 7, 2021, the night his wife and son were murdered. The disbarred South Carolina attorney claimed that his substance addiction caused him to be paranoid and overwhelmed by all of the circumstances, resulting in him lying while speaking to investigators.

  1. you lied about not being at the Kennels to the 911 operator, you said you were not there then! and then the very first officer that arrived there, he wasn't even there 3 minutes and you offered that lie to him from the get go, you are a liar and anything you say from here on is a fg lie!

  2. At 1:20 look how the lies just flow. Theres no repeating questions or stammering it just comes out smooth as glass. Except for the cottonmouth and lip licking because his fight or flight response is kicking off

  3. why does he smack his lips like he's chewing food so much?? Ive been on pain meds for the past 6 years, and have never felt paranoid from them…they don't make you feel paranoid, they make you feel relaxed.. What a lame excuse he came up with..

  4. This is exactly when the jury decided he was guilty. It was looking pretty close up until here, imo. Admitting you lied over and over about being at the crime scene that night sealed his fate.

  5. What INNOCENT husband & father would LIE about critical moments when your family was murdered? He’s a good talker. This is how he was able to manipulate & steal millions from those who trusted him. He’s a murderer.

  6. If Alex admits to a drug addiction, rest assured he is "diverting" the truth and his addiction is something else… gambling perhaps??? Where is all the money? Gambling makes sense in the need for money. If drugs were the addiction he could just get prescriptions from various doctors and have his medical insurance cover the cost.

  7. Prosecution: “Mr. Murdaugh… if you are telling us that once you start lying, you just continue to lie, how do you expect us to believe anything you say”?

    AM: “Yes sir”

  8. The only paranoid thinking this man had was being found out for the lying cheat he was. Shame on him. There was no theft. The only reason anyone killed the wife and son was because of the insurance money. No jewelry was taken. No expensive items. It was all about insurance money.

  9. An innocent person would have absolutely nothing to HIDE!!!!!!!

He admits on June 7th he wasn’t thinking clearly and he doesn’t think he was capable of reason..makes it all possible for him to commit this murder

  10. "I would never do anything intentionally to hurt either one of them."

For me, this is a little red flag. On its own it doesn't mean much but within a long list of red flags it's concerning.

Saying "I would never…" instead of "I didn't," "either one of them" instead of using their names and saying "hurt" instead of killed/murdered are all indicative of using distancing language and POSSIBLY suggest deception.

  11. Was terrified of being prosecuted on financial crimes, and now hopes only to be convicted of those crimes so that he can spend his time at Club Fed. Only reason he's admitting to those crimes. Yet, it wasn't his fault, it was the drugs made him do it, still not taking responsibility of crimes.

  12. insane that we excuse habitual liars in court just because they have consistently lied in the past. blows my mind so much that I literally cannot comprehend it. just like Casey Anthony. was there a reason to lie if she was innocent? HAH. but if you normally are an honest person and the court catches you in a lie you're screwed. insanity

  13. A habitual liar is so confident of his lying that he will always lie when he is caught with another lie. Deny, deny, deny the liars creed. Well his respect for not hurting them didn't stop you from robbing for your deceitful life of many years and doing drugs till you were caught. Drug addicts will always, that is always, fall back on their addiction, as what drove them to horrendous crimes. Most of all he is sorry for himself. Once he lied 20 years ago he has never stopped.
