81 year-old Olen Lane had a stroke 5 years ago and suffers from memory issues. Last month he got pulled over by Deputy Jason Johnson with the Hempstead (Arkansas) Sheriff’s Office for speeding. He either missed, or ignored, all the obvious signs that this elderly man was suffering from dementia. Instead of doing what he should have done to protect the man, he did exactly the opposite. Deputy Johnson did get fired, but without your help, he’s likely about to pop up in your little town next. In this video, I list the obvious signs of dementia that police officers should always be looking for, as well as what they should do when they see them.

  2. Alaska has the Police Standards Council. They will take your complaint, defend the police, send your personal information to the department, and then never follow up again. I complained to them about the TSA and Juneau police detaining me and preventing me from boarding my plane for a couple of seedlings in my carry on – totally legal under both state and federal law – and when I complained to the police standards council the Juneau police immediately had an informant call me out of the blue and tried to get me to sell them marijuana, which I don't do. The Alaska Police Standards Council actually assisted the Juneau Police in trying to retaliate and entrap me. I have it all documented but not on film unfortunately.

  3. Any officer who quits because of an internal investigation against him/ her, should be automatically decertified as a matter of course. If they’re unwilling to face scrutiny for their actions, then they do not deserve to wear the badge and carry that authority in our communities!

  4. Elder abuse. This video needs to dog and follow and hunt and haunt like the ghosts of x-mas past. present, and future. Everywhere he goes, until he's 82 YEARS OLD!!!! Not 81, but 82!!! Why isn't he charged with elder abuse?

  5. I'll never understand why cops gets so angry and personally offended at people at traffic stops or who are being arrested because of some respect nonsense. Just enforce the law and leave your ego out of it. Screaming at this old guy for driving 20 yards is not going to help anything, and if anything, it will make escalation to violence more likely.

  6. Also if you ask my grandfather if has dementia, he’ll say with full confidence that he doesn’t. Whenever he hears about it, it’s news to him. And depending on the day, he’ll argue you down about he doesn’t have it.

  7. sometimes i think maybe we should pay extra upfront cost to hire a lawyer and mental health worker to always shadow police. independent lawyer to make sure they do things legally and mental health worker to play moral compass.

  8. 🇬🇧This was really hard to watch. The cop is obviously in a bad mood. But ultimately he is just a bully who knows that this confused old gentleman is not gonna fight back. It’s horrible.

  9. Regardless, the 81 year old man clearly is medically unfit to drive. His stroke and dementia has rendered him a public risk on the road. He should NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVING. Imagine what you'd say if he killed a child walking on the sidewalk? Perhaps, place context in greater perspective instead. Be fair, not sensationally craven.

  10. So many cops think that yelling gives them some advantage or feeling of power. Or they have trouble controling their emotions. There is NO reason for anger or yelling. Yelling engages the emotional (limbic) system and anger already puts the man in the emotional system. Once the emotion system is engaged, there is less brain activity directed to the problem solving system. Neurologists call this Anti-correlation. The more emotion is activated, the more ego centered the thinking and the less a person can make rational decisions. So many cops have poor emotional control, and excess attention to their egos and entitlement. It is no wonder that so many make supid decision. Unfortunately, the public pays for their stupidity.

  11. As much as I feel sorry for this 81 year old man, I hope that he does not get behind the wheel of a car again. Because he is a danger to himself and others. His next of kin needs to take the car keys away from him.

  12. It still makes me sick when I see this cop do this elderly man the way he did. The cop obviously has mental and anger issues. He has no business being in law enforcement.

  13. I mean, the officer asking him if he was "F'ing R×tarded" was appalling. This kind of stuff from officers and their behavior is getting old and it needs to stop. This officer seems like hes having roid rage and i would definitely feel unsafe around him. Im glad hes fired BUT he'll just be hired at the department in the next city over. They dont ever STAY fired. This video made me sick.

  14. We need required randomized drug testing of public servants and anyone that's on HRT needs extreme scrutiny. Lots of these guys are on "legal" steroids with a valid prescription, lots of them are on it without a valid prescription but will gladly cuff you for am aspirin in your pocket

  15. It's obvious that if people get this angry they don't need to be police but it seems to be all we get. There is never just 1 incident but they continue to feed off American citizens.
