The Shawshank prison was suppose to be in Maine, but was filmed at the Mansfield Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. You can visit the site, was restored, and open for tours. They also have a large haunted prison tour, each Holloween.
The prison used in the movie is in Ohio. But the book places the prison in Maine like most of his stories.
That sign at 8:02 says "Assembly Area" that's where all the employees should assemble in the event of a Fire Drill.
