Why The Cops Can’t “Just tase him”

So often, people ask me (or ask in general) when they see someone shot or injured in a scuffle with the police, “Why can’t they just tase him or something?”

It’s a valid question that I try to tackle here. If you have more questions, drop ’em in the comments. Thanks guys!

  1. I came here after seeing the story about Ma'Khia. Everyone keeps saying 'why not tase instead'. This was very enlightening.

3 Reasons why they aren't always effective:
    1) 5:08 Tasers arent effective on everyone.
    Eg: 5:20.
    2) 5:28 Sometimes the connection isn't made, clothing variable, time between taser shots. Eg 6:17.
    3) 7:20 You have to pick the right tool for the job – depending on variables inc time, other officers, type of weapons being used. 8:34

  2. You see people that say police are brutal saying they should use tasers more, but don’t relies that they can be ineffective, like the guy that had a airsoft gun that got shot because he ran, it didn’t have a tip on it, people in the comments were bashing police for not tasering him, even though he was a running

  3. Good for you making a choice of being with your family. Kept some pointers from your friend donut. Hey who knows you might be rich within a year or so. Love the concept of your new show, it helps to know how to not get in trouble with la enforcement and the whys. Weren’t you in real estate? I see you in sales your a natural. Best of luck and thank you for your services.

  4. My pet peeves with police are:
1 while chasing someone and repeating, "Stop or I'll shoot", but they keep running but never shoots when they threaten to shoot. If you are going to say you are going to shoot, THAN SHOOT THEM ALREADY!!!! I fully understand when citizens are all over the place. BUT, I don't understand when there are no one else around and you are running straight the whole time and all you have to do is just shoot.

2 After pulling someone over and cop and driver are both out of their own vehicles, but the driver starts running back into their vehicle and starts pulling out to take off, WHY DON'T THE POLICE JUST STAY THERE AND SHOOT THE TIRES OF THAT VEHICLE TO PREVENT IT FROM GOING OFF THAT FAR????? WHY TURN AROUND, GO BACK INTO YOUR OWN VEHICLE AND DO HIGH SPEED CHACE…. CAUSING THE RUNAWAY DRIVER TO SPEED EVEN MORE WHICH ESCALATES THAT DRIVER TO CAUSE CRASH AND POSSIBLY KILL INNOCENT DRIVERS, PEDESTRIANS…?????? OR WHY NOT JUST INSTANTLY TASE THAT PERSON RIGHT AWAY BEFORE EVEN HAVING THE CHANCE TO GET INTO THEIR VEHICLE?????

There are way more pet peeves, but I'm starting with these two. This video answered one of my pet peeves. Thank you so much for this answer.

I love how you are opening up and answering our unanswered questions. And I love your personality. You are funny in how you are sharing all of your information about how things go on your job and your reasoning of things. I really appreciate it. Please keep it up.

  5. Question: What about rubber bullets? Does these works or they don´t work?

I don´t know what is the reason that they aren´t used that often. I have not seen them in use and I feel that in an enviroment where the subject isn´t armed with a firearm , rubber bullets could be an option to stop them.

I have not seen them used as much. I have three theories as why (but i´m not expert, I´m a noob and I live in a country where firearms for civilians is mostly illegal).

Reason one: they could kill people if hit in the head, so the police department don´t give rubber bullets to their deputies because they will overuse in any situation and trust them when they should´nt and they would kill a lot of people with rubber bullets. They are dangerous even if they are made of bullet and people should treat them as a dangerous tool. Normal bullets are more dangerous of course but everyone knows that they are dangerous so de police use them only as a last resort measure (Sadly there are some trigger happy policemen that kills people and they are the face of the police on the news ).

Reason two: They are expensive because there isn´t an industry that supports all the rubber bullets production. I don´t know either about this one but I think that because in the US there are a lot of weapons, there are a lot of bullet produced so there are a lot of competition so they make normal bullet relatively cheap.

Reason three: It is not in the culture of the US to use a non lethal weapon on the streets; People are getting used to the idea that all the places in the US are becoming dangerous so they need to defend themselves with bigger guns. Maybe they see rubber bullets as a pussy gun user or something; that may be why they celebrate swat teams and bigger guns and invest heavily in having even armored cars, all of this at the expense of their tax payers [There might be situation where some of them might be needed but I have seen some comentaries about being purchaced by police department in towns when these are definetly not needed].

Four reason because why not: Maybe rubber bullets don´t have the correct air dynamic that normal bullets have so in a gunfight it would be a disadvantage. Althought I mentioned that I suggest rubber bullets to fight against people who don´t have guns; BUT this would be used as an argument against using rubber bullets (There are always bad reasons to not have great things).

reason five: policemen would forget if they loaded rubber bullets or normal bullets and would shoot either way because they aren´t trained enought. Police departments would not be willing to give two guns per officer because it would be expensive.
[hey,Their police department provide them with guns and bullet proof vets. In the country where I live, police officers pays for the bullets they use even if they are 100% justified in using them in self defense and they saved their life or someone life in the process, they pay with their salary for each one of the bullets they shot (Ironically, Maybe that is why they aren´t as trigger happy as in the US?; the bad thing is that they don´t stop criminals often, if at all). The US is a great country where they can be trigger happy and don´t have to pay for that at least from their police and their military personel]

Side note: I have heard that some people have guns, pistols, with rubber bullets for home defense for the next reason: Normal bullets (suposedly like 9mm) if shot at a criminal, they can get throught the body and the criminal would not stop because of the adrenaline rush. BUT if they get shot with rubber bullets, they bullet would not pierce the body but the force would hit very hard and the criminal would get hit hard and scream in pain. I don´t know if that is true or not but I heard that reason.

Other question, Are rubber bullets legal for civilian use in the US? I mean in a regulated way as any firearm of course; i´m not that stupid to think that they aren´t dangerous enought to need a license similar to a normal firearm (BUT as you know, polititians many times lack of common sense and could ban anything for any reason).
