A New York man was released from prison after serving 18 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit. Sheldon Thomas happened to share the “same name” with another man suspected of murdering someone on Christmas Eve in 2004. The Law&Crime Daily team has the details.

47 thoughts on “‘Same Name’: Wrongly Convicted Man Freed from Prison After 18 Years Behind Bars

  1. I was doing some research on this case. The defense attorney pointed out that it was the wrong Sheldon Thomas. The witness photo ID the other Sheldon Thomas not this one. And he was picked up by mistake because they have the same names, not because he was ID by Witness.
The defense attorney thinking this will clear his defendant's name was instead shocked by the judges response….

"They look similar enough I'll allow it to stand" What, what!?

So you're telling me the witness photo ID a different Sheldon Thomas in which my client Sheldon Thomas was picked up by mistake solely for having the same name. But since YOU think they kind of look a like you're going to proceed in Prosecuting the wrong man!? Crazy just crazy

  2. This man should be rewarded fifty million dollars for his time in prison. This man was innocent he spent eighteen years in jail. He can't just pick up the pieces of his life and contenu without help. The city of brooklyn owes him. And they should give him the kind of money to help him live comfortably for the rest of his life.

  3. It took 18 years for the truth to come out??? This is evil and insane. The police officer and the District Attorney responsible should be charged.

  4. So what now ,this gentle dude should be left alone to lock his wound?? No no no…….the withness, and the officers should be held accountable 😮

  5. Prayers for this young man and his family. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

  6. THEY SHOULDVE KEPT HIM IN PRISON”ANY PERSON THAT FORGIVE DEMONS FOR THEIR CRIMES IS JUST AS BAD AS LETTING A KILLER GO. LONG AS HE OUT NOBODY ELSE DESERVE JUSTICE.

  7. Omg I don't know how this poor guy got through all of this..that's a long long time to spend behind bars, how do you keep hope alive, and knowing you shouldn't be there..I am so happy he has got his freedom I genuinely hope he can start living his life,i don't think it's going to be easy,i hope he has got the love & support to carry him through..I wish him all the very best for his future..

  8. Give him millions. He can’t go back in time. His youth was spent in prison. His reputation ruined throughout the years. His life was permanently effected. He should get millions.

  9. The guy released from prison was a gang member back in the day, who was arrested for pointing a gun at police (non-functional gun) and other offenses.

  10. Well he may have been innocent in this case, but 97 percent of them commit violent crimes literally the minute they are old enough to walk. Pretty sure he deserved every day he spent behind bars.

  11. Imagine they are so gung-ho on the death penalty with a injustices like this they need to do away with the death penalty and I’m a victim of gun violence

  12. 18 years?!! omg, i hope he lives his best life after and has all the money he needs to do so..theres no amount of it that justifys 18 yrs of that place..give em 20 million to start with

  13. Let’s hope he gets a mega payout.

It still won’t bring back his youth!

  14. The police who arrested him needs to be jailed and all who helped get him behind bars. If the witness said it was the other dude and picked the right dude how the justice system get it wrong?

  15. He deserves 3-4 million for wrongful conviction. If the amount is high enough it may force the lawyers to do a better job. The person who misidentified him should pay a price for being irresponsible.

  16. The Idaho killer looks like it's all an exciting adventure to him and I can't see that smug grin lasting much longer after sentencing and he realises that he's a weakling

  17. I HOPE THEY’RE READY FOR A BIG PAY OUT.
NOTHING CAN GIVE THIS MAN HIS 18 YRS BACK, BUT THEY OWE THIS MAN BIG TIME.

  18. I'm 💯 no one else in the world has the same name as me my name is so unique its impossible to be mistaken as someone else

  19. Praise God this man has been released from prison FINALLY for a crime he DID NOT COMMITT!!!!! 🙏 ❤️ Praise God for the attorneys that FOUGHT for him & STUCK by his side 🙏 ❤️ to MAKE SURE 🙏 ❤️ JUSTICE ⚖️ 🙏 was SERVED!!!!!! 🙏 ❤️ NOW it's time for him to RECEIVE his financial payment for those 18 YEARS WRONGFULLY SERVED!!!!! 🙏

  20. So what will they do for this guy who lost 18 years of his life. He should be given a hefty sum and set up for life. At least he could have time to get his head together after all he's been through.

  21. I hope they don’t take away his right to sue , I see so many states take away inmates rights to get paid for wrongful imprisonment- literally 30 years in jail and all you get is a sorryless sorry

  22. Take 30 years from my life unjustly; I hope this man sues the city for not less than 50 million dollars. Brooklyn NYPD are known for being one of the biggest bungling agencies in the country when it comes to apprehending and prosecuting suspects. Heck, same thing almost happened to me.
