Novi, Michigan — On Friday, October 24, 2025, police and emergency crews were called to a traffic crash near Novi Road and 10 Mile Road. Among those injured in that initial crash was 33-year-old Changlin Li, a driver involved in the collision. Paramedics from Medstar Ambulance were treating several people at the scene, including Li, who was being evaluated for injuries in or near the back of an ambulance. While medical personnel were tending to patients, Li suddenly jumped into the driver’s seat of the ambulance and sped away from the crash site, leaving responders stunned. Inside the ambulance were a paramedic and a patient who had been receiving care at the time. As Li fled, officers pursued the stolen vehicle while Medstar tracked it remotely and relayed its location to law enforcement. During the chase, Li reportedly drove over 70 mph, passed through construction zones with workers, and eventually blew a tire before running a red light at 8 Mile and Beck roads in Northville Township.
The ambulance then slammed into a GMC Yukon, causing a violent collision that set the ambulance on fire. Despite the flames, all three people inside the ambulance and the 72-year-old Yukon driver survived, though they sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Li attempted to run from the wreckage and even tried to take an officer’s gun during his arrest. He was eventually captured and later tried again to grab an officer’s weapon while at the hospital. Police also discovered he was carrying a concealed knife. Li now faces multiple felony charges, including carjacking, fleeing and eluding, assaulting and obstructing police, attempting to disarm officers, and carrying a concealed weapon. His bond was set at $5 million, and his next court appearance is scheduled for November 5.

As a veteran Paramedic of 42 yrs. nothing surprises me anymore. Since Covid people have changed, there is no respect anymore for anything or anyone.

Did the people in the back even know what happened? Is the cab connected to the cabin? Because it would be especially terrifying if the ambulance just took off and was doing all this reckless stuff and you didn't even know what was going on, you are just stuck in the back. The6 might not have even realized anything was wrong until they saw they were going the wrong way, or the cop was behind them, if they thought it was just speeding to the hospital as usual.
Now hear me out: what if the patient in the ambulance was actually one of those annoying types who always developsa medical issue just as they are being arrested on warrants or a DUI, and wants to go to it hospital, wasting valuable resources? Then just after they get loaded in to check out their strange inability to breathe, the ambulance gets stolen and this happens to them. That would be quite hilarious. Karma. Always someone. People see a stolen ambulance crash and then the driver fighting with the cops on the ground as they try to arrest him, and one of the drivers is life "damn, I bet that are going to be forever with this, I guess I will just turn around and go the other way". What are you, late for work and going to lose your job? Or is this just so typical it's not worth paying attention to in Michigan? Guess it depends on how near you are to Detroit and the other industrial towns that have been turned into crime cesspools since the 1960s, no one has any idea why. Total mystery.
