The law firm representing Gabby Petito‘s family in a lawsuit against the Moab Police Department in Utah released a photo showing injuries they say were inflicted by her fiancé and killer, Brian Laundrie. Attorneys for the Petitos said this injury was inflicted prior to the couple’s traffic stop with police, and later pointed out to an officer during a traffic stop in August 2021. The lawsuit accuses officers of failing to properly investigate Petito’s apparent injuries. The Law&Crime Network’s Sierra Gillespie has the details.

An independent witness said he slapped her. There were zero independent witnesses to her hitting him. She might have hit him at some point during the incident but she had been conditioned to take the blame for everything by this point so of course she’s going to downplay his actions. The officers messed up so bad here. I hope they use this interaction in all police training classes as an example of what not to do. Knowing the mindset of many police officers in the US, they probably feel no regret or remorse for how they handled the situation. 😢
She abused him over, and over. The last time she tried, he asserted his dominance, and shut it down. Now, she can’t abuse anyone else.

the police failed her on this traffic stop, they could have saved her life. unforgivable
She is a lot of times speaking quiet. Maybe so not to irritate Brian.
Police officers have a really tough job. It is hard to watch this. He controlled her and killed her 100%. But, If you were the trained officer though would you have arrested Brian during that stop, without knowinf the outcome??? He is the aggressor but there wasn't enough evidence during that stop to prove he was gonna KILL her. Very tough job!

The cops gave her the van!! She could have drove away drove home etc its sad what happened true she had so many chances to leave she wasn't locked in a basement we can't expect the police to save us we have to be adults and parents and teach ourselves n loved ones to leave n go to safety

cop doesn’t let her talk, interrupts her MULTIPLE times and then right after Gabby says “i know he gets frustrated with me, and i have a lot of anxiety†and his first thought was to basically relate to how BL was feeling? idk but to me if i was Gabby i would be thinking “oh his wife triggered his anxiety, that’s probably what i’m doing right now†and blamed herself even more. Proof that police, as a whole, are useless when it comes to enforcing the law. From what I’ve seen in my life, all but a few need to look for alternate career paths which don’t involve the public

It’s usually the person that’s getting abused that ends up looking like the bad person because they never want to make their abuser “Look bad†notice how he’s laughing with the cops and she’s in a total hysterical state… I wish more police were trained on this kind of stuff because so many abusers get away and continue doing what they’re doing while the abused get locked up for protecting themselves
It should be considered that this entire trip was mainly for the purpose of social media coverage as she did daily videos for the public interest and to increase her visibility. An idyllic trip like this was all hearts and flowers, love and sunshine. No way did she want the entire blog to be destroyed by showing her "perfect" partner was actually an abuser. End of her budding career. She no doubt would have spoken up more had they been a private couple.

After she left that traffic stop, she should have taken the van and gone home. But she seemed very immature to be on this trip.
Cops need to start learning about narcissistic abuse and emotional abuse not just physical abuse. But take all 3 seriously.

Yes, he should have been detained. But, I wonder if Gabby was in a place where she would have reached out to someone. Too many times they go back to their abusers. She was scared of him. It’s so heartbreaking to watch.
Brian’s family had to know something was amiss. Even, if he didn’t tell them.
Her face was injured and there were witnesses. Her word shouldn’t have mattered at that point. They should have arrested him and asked the witnesses to verify he was they guy they saw beating a girl .
the cops should be prosecuted
OMG this is so sick. The dear girl needed help though was too scared to say. Police should have taken her into custody straight away for her own protection. As people witnessed the boyfriend punching her in the face! Domestic Violence is so scary and when you are in such a situation – you are totally petrified to say anything. Abusers threaten to kill you and become even more abusive, and they intimidate and verbally put you down every day ….. They bash you often and make you feel worthless.
Why didn’t the cops tell her to stay away from that guy
Brian had a bruised and bleeding right temple among other injuries. Gabby BEGGED not to be separated from Brian. Gabby called her mother and refused to listed to her advice to fly home and get away from Brian. The police separated them for the night and she picked him up the next morning. The Petitos didn't fly to Utah to bring their daughter home after she told them he hit her and the police had stopped them.
Damn, to think, the officers failed her.
I don't care who hit who first. It doesn't matter in this case. They should have arrested Gabby and called her parents. Either her father or stepfather would have flown out to rescue her in a heartbeat. Moab police missed a chance to protect her. And why didn't they follow up? It is a red flag that he was calm and collected during this traffic stop. Only a psychopath would be calm and collected while his fiancee is crying hysterically. At least be mad over the irritation of being pulled over. The lack of emotion is disturbing.
