I do feel bad for the cashier, the police are lying to him, they don't know that necessarily, but the police aren't actually asking if the store wants them charged, cause the store isn't the person who'll be summoned to come testify, it's the cashier, so police should always ask the highest person in charge at the time if they want to press charges and that they will be the person who comes to court to testify
