Alex Murdaugh Admitted to Roadside Shooting Scheme for Insurance Money: Defense

After court concluded Tuesday, prosecutors motioned to admit a recorded statement of Alex Murdaugh’s into evidence. Murdaugh’s defense attorney, Richard Harpootlian, told the judge his client admitted to plotting the Sept. 2021 roadside shooting in a murder-suicide insurance fraud scheme with his drug dealer in this interview. “This was a voluntary statement,” Harpootlian said before explaining that Murdaugh confessed because he wanted SLED resources focused on the investigation into the murders of his wife and son, rather than his case.

  1. if someone were to play this audio from 3:15 on out , not knowing anything about it, i believe most of us would bet our last dollar that this is just an unrealistic script for a terrible comedy drama.

  2. In hindsight, Alex's mind was always spinning a new thread… So, glad the prosecutors had the foresight to see through his mumbo jumbo to know just how clever the defendant was. AM was always trying to shift the investigation off of himself.. Restating then giving long drawn out explanations for every question posed. Thankfully, the prosecution was able to demonstrate what an excellent liar Alex was to the jurors!! Thank you jurors for seeing through Alex's southern charm and being able to see the real evil inside this man!!

  3. Isn't the "some other fact, some other event" evidencd generally inadmissible unless it is proferred to show a pattern, habit etc. Is the state pushing a theory that this guy killed his family for insurance money?

  4. Defense atty: The point is he that he wanted to be dead!!". Is it????
We just take Alex's word in that? Or is it possible he wanted to be wounded and fake a murder ATTEMPT on his life, in order to make himself look innocent and enforce the idea that other murderers were real??? I think the latter is much more likely. And I also think it's more likely his lawyers convicnced him to come clean to the cops because they'd figure it out eventually. But who knows.

  5. Im not sure what the stats are as far as a Narcissist ending it all, but based on the ones I know, it's close to zero. Thank God for that judge.. I'm not sure how this is landing on the jury, but I am confident the lead prosecutor will pull it all together for them and his closing. As far as the two defense lawyers, the theatrical, curmudgeon and company, they are a disgrace.

  6. So many liars in this case, defence lawyer is stating that the man who shot AM is a liar. Well sir, so is your client…He cannot be trusted and now you want the jury to believe whatever he says NOW. Stop trying to distract us from the truth, his intention was to be dead. I guess we will never know his intention bc he lies to try and save himself. The fact that he made it out to be an attempt on his life to garner sympathy cannot be ignored.

  7. i like how the defense uses the roadside shooter as evidence murdaugh (pathological liar) wanted to die that day, but then says eddie gives 6 different answers to every question… which is it? credible or not credible?

  8. He set the roadside shooting up not just so he could be dead and money could go towards Buster, but so he could make people and the state think that the guy he hired was the person who actually killed Maggie and Paul and would be a cover-up for himself, knowing that he was the actual shooter in the murders.

  9. Why would Maggie have CB. Row in her fingernails?
Maybe Alec is like a person who admits what they did and won’t if he didn’t do it.
Someone can scream like another person and whoever did this is not a good shot or they wouldn’t have to do it twice.

  10. He wasn't trying to save the resources to use for his family's murders. He he was actually draining the resources by telling them that it was maybe the same guy sending them on a wild goose chase. So it did have something to do with June 7 because Alex said it was connected.

  11. he is evil the son of the maid who die he received the money from the case, the son of the maid was evited of their trailer he let him be a homeless having 1/2 miillion that belong to him.
in Carolina the law apply to the poor not for a whealty and powerful families, that happen with the Argentnian guy. the killer went free she was laughing that she got a way with murder.
