He's thinking about how much progress he's made since prison and how he just threw it all away. He thought he'd get away because its a state trooper but if you're stuck on a highway and nowhere near a city you're not getting away

I mean for what he did, he certainly deserves the sentence, but dude seems like a fairly balanced person, probably broadly appreciated by the community outside of his illegal activities. If we had a proper rehabilitation system seems like that'd be worth looking into for him, if there's some kind of issue causing his criminality.
