Fugitive lawyer Richard Merritt took the stand Tuesday in his own defense against the murder charge against him for the brutal killing of his mother, Shirley Merritt. The disgraced lawyer proclaimed his innocence and told the jury a completely different story than what prosecutors allege. Merritt claimed armed men entered his mother Georgia’s home and “skewered and bludgeoned†her before threatening to kill his entire family. The disgraced attorney detailed why he fled to Tennessee in his mother’s car and started an entirely new life under an alias out of fear of the so-called “monsters†who killed the 77-year-old woman. Merritt was the defense’s only witness before they rested their case.

I swear there is nothing worse than a narcissistic person who is lying through teeth and talking artificially calmly thinking they are melting everyone’s hearts with their smooth voice. In reality it’s so cringy is almost vomit inducing.
Fair to say the jury witnessed him lie on the stand (to get out of trouble) about not lying when he needs to get himself out of trouble. The silence she let the court room sit and bathe in at that moment was deafening
