Former school resource officer Scot Peterson is on trial for allegedly not following active shooter training during the Parkland school massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. Peterson — dubbed “The Broward Coward” — has been criticized for his actions after surveillance video showed him remaining outside the high school while shots were fired inside killing 14 students and threes staff members. Peterson faces seven counts of felony child neglect, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury. He and his defense team believe the once “dedicated officer” did nothing wrong.

  1. It blows my mind that officers or school personnel who carry guns stayed outside and did nothing. Cruz was even able to leave the building and run. They even had a description of the shooter. Shouldn’t they have been watching both exits at least. What the heck was they all doing?

  2. This defense attorney is horrible, sustained objections after sustained objections, is he a new attorney or what because he doesn’t seem to know how to properly ask questions or even listen to the judge 🙄

  3. People: We should ammend the gun laws!!!
Florida: Nope! Lets criminaly prosecute a cop who had a trauma response during a life and death situation!

I understand that he failed in his duty. But he wil not be the first one to freeze during this type of situation. No one knows how they will react until it happens to them. I feel for the kids and the families. But this is not the killer. I hope the defense has enough sense to bring a psychologist in.

  4. So why did none of them run towards the gun fire? There are many officers in this building with heavy weaponry, why are we blaming one man that was alone and not even receiving the same info on the radio. This school officer could have shot another officer going in! None of them knew what they were doing! Charge all or no one!

  5. This poor guy! Trying to charge him and put all of it on him to blame somebody other than the shooter! It’s sad to me that an entire team of officers showed up heavily armed, and still waited outside, knowing children and teachers were being shot. They could literally hear the gunfire and they waited over an hour to act on it. But this guy with a small handgun is being charged for not taking on the shooter. Mind you, he was not aware of how many shooters there were at this time. But all the other officers get no charges well they stood outside the door as children were being massacred. This to me is where our system is screwed! If they’re going to charge him they should charge all of them! The team of officers literally stood outside, listening and said oh, I was waiting for someone to give us a command to go in. I didn’t know who was in charge. The whole team was that confused imagine how scared and confused the one officer was.

  6. I fully understand that he had a job to do. He was a sworn deputy to serve and protect with a weapon. I also know that when any officer is on the scene of any shooting, 50% of the time they wait for back up to take on a shooter. I honestly don’t know all the information in this case. It will be interesting to watch.

  7. The norm of this all is the crisis. The cowardly cop should be prosecuted for dereliction of duty. Every cop has Qualified Immunity except this one?

  8. I think he knew shooter was armed with high power assault type rifle based on the noise snd his 30+ years experience. He knew he didnt want to take that risk since he only had a small handgun. If shooter also had small handgun i think he would have acted differently. Just my opinion.
