Former Columbus police vice squad officer Andrew Mitchell was indicted on murder and voluntary manslaughter charges for the death of 23-year-old Donna Castleberry. Mitchell went to trial in the spring of 2022, but in April, a judge declared a mistrial because jurors couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict. On the night Castleberry was killed, Mitchell allegedly picked her up in an unmarked police car during an undercover prostitution sting. Mitchell claims Castleberry stabbed him, so he shot her out of self defense. However, during the first trial, prosecutors said that she was shot in the back of Mitchell’s car while attempting to escape.

6:20:18 Is he seriously falling asleep during his own murder trial!?
Is there a video of the altercation between them? Didn't find in they one nor day 2
Not guilty. …
Why shoot 6 times wow
This female defense attorney needs to tone it down. Someone needs to provide her with a brush as well, her hair is constantly disheveled
Guilty! He had the door open while she’s in the back seat. He could have gotten out of the car and instead shot her and kept shooting her. Nope. He needs to pay for taking her life. I think it’s ridiculous he didn’t have a badge. I’m sorry but this is a must. He’s not in some undercover sting operations with gang members or something. It’s a prostitute!! Who cares if you aren’t able to apprehend her today. You’ll see her again another day and she’s not a threat to anyone’s life. She needed help not to be arrested. This is a sad case.
Why does the defence Council constantly ask "may I proceed" I've never seen this before and I watch loads of trials.
There’s a difference being under cover and dealing with prostitutes, versus under cover dealing with gangsters!
1st Mistake: He should have had his real badge with him in the side pocket of the door right next to where he kept his gun, instead of some police ID card that the general public doesn’t recognize!
Had that been the case, this tragic situation doesn’t happen!
2nd Mistake: After calling for back up to prove he was an officer and when she started calling to the person passing by for help, he should not have escalated the situation by grabbing her and trying to put on hand cuffs. He should have remained calm, advised the person passing by that he was an officer and let him know that they were waiting for more officers because at that point nothing had really happened. She became agitated after she was asking for help and then the officer put his hands on her and tried to cuff her.
3rd Mistake: When the situation was escalated and there was a confrontation and he was stabbed, he was able to open the door, get a foot out and pivot to take a shot. Instead of shooting, when he had a foot on the ground, he could have easily just kept putting distance between them and stepped away from the car, while keeping the gun pointed at her….had her drop the knife and then arrested her….but NO!! He lost control, got angry and shot her over and over!! Definitely over kill!!
He’s guilty!!
Geez!!! As soon as the female defense attorney started speaking during the opening statement, I knew I didn’t like her! I could tell her personality was going to rub me the wrong way….and in fact, she is rubbing me the wrong way!! UGH!! 😤
The court reporter gave her the side eye 😒….
the judge 👨ðŸÂ¼â€Â⚖︠told her to slow down and it’s as if she hasn’t been warned. She’s speaking just as fast as she was in the beginning. I hate when you have a young attorney trying to prove something and they have this type of attitude.
She’s irritating as 🤬!!
She died in the back seat but we don’t know which shot killed her.
At first i thought it was some funny business , but the co texted the group he was with her and that she didnt believe he was a cop, sad situation but she was under arrest, you can't pull out a knife and cut a cop at that point thats just bad!
I can’t believe that officers didn’t have to carry a badge to prove who they are when in plain clothes making an arrest. The lady thought he was kidnapping her. Why did simply not get out when she was in the back seat? This guy is facing charges of exactly was the lady accused him of
Ty for help on this. Can someone tell me was castleberry in front seat first and then moved to back? I’m not clear on this
For her to have gone from front seat to back means she was trying to flee her perceived threat. That makes her the victim not the assailant.
At the time of shooting she is in the back seat, trapped as unable to open the door, and he is outside of drivers door. She was no longer a threat and this this was not self defense.
Could she have climbed over the front seat and gotten out the car on the driver side and attacked him again with the knife? Maybe that's why he unloaded on her.
He had her trapped in the backseat of that car. Begging for her life; and he’s able to just walk away Scott free. I know they said his “cut†was “serious†but I didn’t see a drop of blood in the body camera from McDaniel.
This trial is bs no way justice for victim no matter what she was.
Xxx
So far I don't see anything 😕😕 the officer did wrong. She was trying to stab him for God sake
Anyone else find the live comments infuriating every trial? People making up evidence to justify their " not guilty " opinions… assailants don't scream for help victims do
And the fact that his little blond friend said she stopped talking to him after the incident because she didn't want anyone to think that she would lie for him.
But, lie about what?! If he played by the rules.. whats to cover up? 🤷ðŸÂ¼â€Â♀ï¸Â🤷ðŸÂ¼â€Â♀ï¸ÂðŸ¤â€Ã°Å¸Â¤â€
Did they say yesterday the state should be resting on Friday… like as in tomorrows Friday, the 14th??🤨 All their evidence in 3 days??
What an absolute embarrassing and massive waste of police resources – doing a sting on prostitution. Such a huge problem so we need to create a special sting. 🙄
Funny how your job tends to influence your life. Case in point: Vice officer with the flowing platinum tresses and massive lashes.
Has the surveillance vid been shown yet that prosecutor talked about in opening?
If this was a football score….Defense won today 49-0
