When Alania Spohn and her younger sister, Hannah Plyler, were involved in a crash that killed their mother and brother in 2005, they trusted Alex Murdaugh to represent them in a civil suit. They learned years later that he and his friend, Palmetto State Bank CEO Russell Laffitte, had allegedly used their settlement money to loan themselves money. The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy talks with Spohn and her lawyer, Eric Bland, about Murdaugh and Laffitte, testifying against Laffitte at his trial, and hearing Alex Murdaugh talk about them from the witness stand at his family murders trial.

32 thoughts on “‘I Trusted Him’: Alex Murdaugh’s $1M Theft Victim Speaks Out Against Disgraced Lawyer, Banker

  1. I wonder if Alex and his accomplices messed with these people's cars to eventually get to represent them. Maybe that's what happened with Stephen Smith, but it went wrong.

  2. How I wish he got the exact same words dished out to himself from his lawyer too, sarcastically saying "This ain't right, I gonna make this right, don't worry, I'll have you out in no time"

  3. Listening to these interviews gives me faith in human nature, thankyou for standing up to for these young women. It's all been a terrible mess.

  4. How anyone didn’t suspect is beyond me seems like the more money he got the more enablers he had .. I can’t believe he wasn’t found out sooner he’s a swirling whirlpool of darkness he’s talking but there’s a whole other “ thing” inside of that bloke he uses a complete toolbox of manipulation techniques but occasionally that “ thing” shows up in his smirking 😏 to particular questions he’s quite proud of his demonic entertainment value probably why they called him “ the Tasmanian devil” he knew what he was doing but for him he saw people as objects and the power to control his surroundings lay in his knowledge that money protected him and he controlled people using it a whole team of ⛺️ tent-pegs who enabled him one by one they were finding out and finally Maggie had made the decision to run 🏃‍♀️ he knew … she was leaving him

  5. So he wasn’t even claiming Paul🤦🏾‍♀️…this guy….I am so sorry ma’am 🥺

  6. Yep more money that Eric gets the girls, means more money for him. I guarantee you, Eric bland, made a nice payday for himself on this case.

  7. As the financial victims of Alex speak out it makes more and more sense why Harpootlian and Griffin didn't want the financial data entered into to murder trial.
IMO it all does tie back to the murders.

  8. All this just reinforced my lack of trust in attorneys. They really are scum of the earth on both sides. Why aren't they prosecuting all the law enforcement that covered up all the crimes committed by the Murdoch family for years. Just shows the corruption on both sides.

  9. Wow, what resilience these girls had. God Bless you both. Your bond is so beautiful & incredible. Wishing you endless blessings. Always persevere, as you have, & embrace as much joy as possible, which you so rightly deserve. Lots of Love !!

  10. The only thing here is….try and take some positivity from this, of it will make you bitter and twisted. Money has been returned and some, so I hope your life’s will be okay financially. It just goes to show , you need to know what your lawyers are up too!

  11. This poor young lady and her sister. I hope the rest of her life is nothing but pure joy and love. What kind of monsters prey on the sufferings of others especially young children???
