A former vice squad detective is on trial for the second time after he killed a sex worker in what he claims was an act of self defense. In 2018, Andrew Mitchell picked up Donna Castleberry during an undercover prostitution sting. This week, jurors left the courtroom for two site visits: the first at the impound lot where Mitchell’s squad car has been stored and the second at the actual scene of the crime. During opening statements, prosecutors said Castleberry was shot when she tried to escape from Mitchell’s squad car.

Well the first trial resulted in a hung jury. What will be different this time? There's a lot of funky stuff here, but she did attack him with a knife, and she is not here to convince the jury she was the one acting in self defense.
He had a history of messing around but had been on the force over 25 years.

Why is he even on trial? He received a knife wound before being forced to defend himself.

Since this is a retrial..I would say the first jury was corrupted..
Don't forget that neither Mitchell nor any of the police that responded attempted any life-saving measures for Donna. Mitchell didn't even call for an ambulance, a civilian did. She still had a pulse when medics arrived but the cops on scene never even checked because quote "she looked pretty dead".
This cop is notoriously corrupt, and all his former colleagues. They have since disbanded this vice unit. He is a killer
