Corvette Driver Runs at Deputies With Loaded Gun and Gets Shot

Miami-Dade County, Florida — On June 17, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Robbery Intervention detail deputies initiated a traffic stop on a yellow corvette near NW 62nd Street and NW 22nd Avenue. The traffic stop was initiated due to illegal window tints. The driver, 24-year-old Kristofer Laboy, fled from the traffic stop. Laboy drove at a high rate of speed through city streets while, at times, driving in heavy traffic against the right of way. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit responded, providing real-time updates to ground units on Laboy’s location. Ground units broke away but remained in the general area of Laboy’s vehicle with the assistance of air support. At the intersection of NW 85th Street and NW 5th Avenue, Laboy stopped momentarily and threw an object from his vehicle. Laboy then drove into an apartment complex and came to a stop. Laboy exited his vehicle while armed and ran toward deputies, resulting in deputy #1 discharging his service weapon. Deputy #1 pulled in behind Laboy’s vehicle, blocking him from driving backward.

Deputy #1 opened his door and yelled, “Put the gun down!” Laboy exited his vehicle and ran toward deputy #1 while armed with a handgun. Deputy #1 discharged his service weapon and gave Laboy additional commands to drop the firearm. Deputy #1 approached Laboy and moved the gun away. Deputy #3 detained Laboy. Deputy #3 was running to assist deputies #1 and #2 when the deputy-involved shooting occurred. Deputy #2 was driving the red unmarked sheriff’s vehicle. He immediately called for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to respond to the scene. Deputies provided medical aid until the arrival of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel. Laboy was pronounced deceased at the scene. Laboy was armed with a SIG Sauer P320 9mm, loaded with a 21-round magazine containing 20 live rounds and one round in the chamber. A bag of marijuana and multiple small plastic bags were located in Laboy’s vehicle. Multiple bottles of prescription promethazine were also located in Laboy’s vehicle. Promethazine is sometimes misused in the illegal manufacture of illicit street drugs. No deputies or uninvolved community members were injured during this incident.

    Man, he decides to run in a yellow Corvette? Then he jumps out of the vehicle with cops right there – with a weapon in hand? Even if you don't know much about procedures, you should at least know that. At 24, he is too young to have known about the days where cops would beat you down way before they would taser or open fire on you.

    To be honest, I don’t think that dude thought he was getting pulled over. I’d run from a red charger in a white one too.😂
