Alex Murdaugh’s attorney, Jim Griffin, delivered the defense’s closing arguments Thursday. Griffin attempted to discredit the state’s case, claiming they botched many aspects of the investigation into the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. “Not guilty,” Griffin said to the jury after listing off every factor that may lead to reasonable doubt in their deliberations.

40 thoughts on “Alex Murdaugh Defense Tries to Shatter Case Against Disgraced Lawyer in Closing Arguments

  1. Jim Griffin was very nonchalant about the evidence against AM. They were never able to explain the fact that AM lied about being at the kennels around the time of the murders. Why he lied about it.

  2. Mr Griffin is trying so hard to convince this jury there is reasonable doubt. He is not winning this jury over. It’s really sad and pathetic how he’s so sadly attempting to make Alex appear innocent, he himself knows Alex is GUILTY!

  3. Unfortunately Aleck took a stand. You should have protected him from the beginning. Lots of evidence from his own testimonies. Rest in jail 😂😢😮😊

  4. With a defense pointing out the prosecution's case and including crass terms like blew them away….if Alex wasn't guilty then his defense pointed it out. Alex had no defense. In his interviews he was off. All that had bobbing when lying, it wasn't going to be different. Again, his defense closing arguments were horrendous!!! They should be ashamed. It probably looked ok on paper.

  5. Am's lawyers are horrible. One is an old, bumbling, rambling "big shot"… and this one is driving me nuts. I've watched the entire court case, except for this last bit: the defence team's closing argument. I followed the state's closing argument with ease, but the defence's team's closing argument is like scratching nails on a blackboard. I'm seriously feeling sick. The lies (ie Alex's) he's perpetuating – 🤢🤮. How evil or brainless some lawyers have to be. Does he not believe what he's saying, this the rush & disjointed manner? The state's case is sound & very plausible. I wonder if the jury felt as over-it now with this guy as we're feeling. And by far the worst witness was AM himself – that was 2 days of pure torture listening to that lying, entitled, man-baby whining away, making up more & more lies as he went. Oh well, only a little more to watch. At least I know the outcome already. (Yay to the jury & their decisions!) Anyway, I press on listening to this nonsense from the defence lawyer…

  6. This is one of the worst closings I have ever heard. Perhaps younger lawyers who understand technology would do the trick. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

  7. You can’t say that putting out a public announcement saying there’s no danger means cops had their mind made up when Alex himself said over and over about the boat case and believed it stemmed from that. So Murdaugh probably thought at the time, good they believe it’s someone from the boat case, but now you want to blame it on cops because you need it to proclaim a fixed investigation

  8. You almost have to feel sorry for this defense attorney. He’s got a bad case so he’s fumbling all over the place, he’s almost incoherent. The jury deserves an award for not falling asleep during this closing, it’s so boring. And he barely explains all the inconsistencies…probably because he can’t without just saying “my clients a murderer and a liar”.

  9. What on earth is he trying to say??? I’ve never been more confused on a closing argument ever and I watch a lot of trials…

  10. When Jim says , “ and my friend Paul” he was speaking from the heart. He was representing him in the boat case.

  11. The harm he did from stealing should get him the same life sentence so who cares if he killed them too. Those are all felonies. We should hold those who know better and given every advantage to a higher standard and responsiblity not less!

  12. The defense made some excellent points, nervous or not. The blood on his T shirt was not human blood. If he did take Maggie’s phone, why didn’t he answer the texts he was sending her to affect the time line? He was not scurrying around he was walking 1 step a second. How could he clean up himself, the grounds and the guns in such a short time and leave not one iota of evidence that he has washed everything down.

  13. We mustn’t talk too badly about the defense. We don’t want to give AM a reason to appeal on grounds of a poor defense.

  14. This is the worst defence ever did he really say he would have used the phones together because that would have been the best way 🤨😒

  15. He is the worst defence attorney I've ever seen 😆 he is an absolute fkn joke who probably gets no win cases 😂 reminds me of the public defender on MY COUSIN VINNY 😆

  16. Défense talked to them as adults? Really? He started his closing arguments by telling them he didn’t want to argue with them. As if that was what closing arguments means, as if he didn’t know it, as if the jury didn’t know what closing arguments means. He talked to the jury as if they were idiots. They were not.

  17. "I am not here to have an argument with you" Lawyer to Jury….wow. That is not why it is called a closing argument , these lawyers were unreal.

  18. So…ladies and gentlemen of the jury…in summary:
    1) My client lied to you
    2) he’s a paranoid drug addict with tons of skeletons in his closet
    3) he was at the crime scene minutes before the murders
    4) he was honest with you about his years of embezzlement and financial crimes
    5) he did what any rational person would do….kill your wife and son! And it worked since folks stopped asking questions (I’m being sarcastic btw)
    6) He only stole $792,000 once! That’s a one-off!
    7) Murdering his wife bought him only a month’s time.
    8) He paid his drug dealer to shoot ONLY him in the head to commit insurance fraud.
    9) He is so smart and diabolical that he staged the murders to look like two shooters (again..sarcasm)
    10) Law enforcement manufactured fabricated evidence
    11) I applaud the circumstantial evidence presented by the state of my clients guilt

Now with fancy lawyerin like that, how on earth did they find him guilty?💁🏾‍♂️

  19. Oh my god….The look of pure horror on the face of the defense attorney sitting next to AM @ 28:25 as Griffin suggest the FBI fabricated evidence says it all!!

She’s so shocked by what she’s witnessing, she can’t even blink! 🤣

  20. It feels as if the defence had an original closing focussed on a two shooter theory relying on their angles evidence, but it was so destroyed on rebuttal that they've had to scrape this together at the last minute.

  21. He went straight down to the kennels after visiting with his parents because he knew exactly where Paul and Maggie were.
