Officer Fires Gun After Being Knocked To The Ground

Dallas, Texas — On Sunday, April 19, 2026, at approximately 2:13 a.m., a Dallas Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a black 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 4800 block of Preston Road for operating without headlights. The vehicle continued into Highland Park before coming to a stop on Mockingbird Lane. As the officer marked out on the traffic stop, the front seat passenger, later identified as 27-year-old Jeremy Mays, exited the vehicle and approached the officer. Mays began speaking incoherently and made an unsolicited statement that he did not have any weapons. As the officer attempted to guide Mays out of the roadway, Mays suddenly assaulted the officer, striking him multiple times and knocking him to the ground. Mays then charged the officer again. The officer retreated westbound on Mockingbird Lane while being pursued by Mays. During the pursuit, the officer fired two rounds, striking Mays once in the abdomen. Mays collapsed in the roadway. Responding Highland Park officers, who heard the gunfire, arrived to assist. Mays was taken into custody at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled but was later identified and interviewed by investigators. Special Investigations Unit detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to process the scene. Investigators recovered two fired cartridge casings. A search of the area did not locate a firearm.

    God Speed to this Officer of the Blue – – Good Call on getting into a a qucik retreat stance in order to initiate a response to sub-due the man who just commited a felony assult on a Police Officer – – stopped the threat – -safety to the comminity achieved – – If this Dude will initiate this kind of response "unarmed" at Police (for a nothing burger) then he is clearly an Idiot and a Danger to Society – –

    This is so messed up there’s no scenario we’re a United States civilian with a concealed and carry would get away with something like this . What I’m trying to say is if a concealed and carry USA citizen gets assaulted in the face by a 🐒 , and decides to use his firearm in response to the attack you better believe you’ll have your 2 amendment stolen right along with your firearms and sent to jail for attempted murder and other ridiculous charges lol I hate the United States. It makes me happy when theres crazy firearms psychos doing outrages things .

    Good call for drawing your weapon, because the suspect knocked you down and he went back for the death hit . As for the suspect he was looking for a fight. lesson learned don’t touch an officer . I dislike the fact that it gets blurred out., I think humans should see this and see what happens if you go against an officer, call it a learning experience. Because of you keep covering up humans are just not gonna learn right from wrong..👮‍♂️
