Seattle, Washington — On October 30, 2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Seattle Police Department (SPD) received at least one 911 call related to a man holding or otherwise possessing an axe near 5th Ave S. and S. Holgate St. SPD officers arrived in the area and attempted to talk with the man. During the interaction, SPD utilized less than lethal tools on the man. At some point, the male produced a firearm. More than one SPD officer fired their handguns at the man. Medical aid was quickly rendered on the man by SPD officers and Seattle Fire Department personnel. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 46-year-old Jack Paleli. His cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

Is there a reason why officers in certain cities wait so long to attempt their less lethal tools like Tasers? I'm NOT saying that they should have charged the suspect holding a weapon, but in a lot of these blue cities in particular, officers with Tasers and other tools tend to just hold them out and play "follow the leader" while saying "stop" a hundred times until the suspect eventually escalates it into a deadly force situation.
It sounds like these officers had Taser 10s too, which would have given them some good attempts off. I get that using any type of force isn't the most optimal situation, but when someone has a weapon and clearly is not complying, attempting the less lethal tools ASAP still seems better to me than "follow the suspect around and hope we don't have to shoot."

First of all, I'd like to say I'm VERY pro cop. But when that poor, crazy, indigent guy pulled his gun, it jammed and he clearly threw it to the ground. Those trigger happy fuckers shot him anyway.

He clearly pulled the trigger to no affect had he had a round chambered that cop could’ve been shot. He then attempted to get his gun into action before the first rounds after hitting him, he dropped the gun and took one under the arm- this was fatal….
