A former police officer stands trial for shooting and killing a black woman in her mother’s home back in October 2019. The question before jurors is whether defendant Aaron Dean‘s actions constituted murder. Authorities said victim Atatiana Jefferson, 28, was at her mother’s home playing video games with her nephew when Dean, then an officer with the Fort Worth Police Department, performed a botched welfare check.
James Smith, who was neighbors with the homeowner Yolanda Carr, told the BBC in a 2020 report that he called police to perform a welfare check after his niece and nephew saw that the lights of her home were on and the front door was open on the early morning of Oct. 12, 2019. He thought that it was strange that Carr’s lawnmower and gardening equipment were plugged in. This was not an emergency call. Smith said he expected an officer to just knock on the door and see if his neighbor was fine. He did not know that Carr was in the hospital for her heart condition. Instead, Carr’s 8-year-old grandson and daughter Atatiana were up playing video games.

The jury got this one right in my personal opinion
Why is the allocution AFTER the sentencing?
Starts at 5 hours 11 minutes for feed and 5 hours 16 minutes for verbal
I’m not blaming his family for what happened, but I will say that I can absolutely see where he gets his attitude from. His mother had no sympathy for what happened to Atatiana and what her family is going through! When asked by the prosecutor about how a mother feels outliving her child, she was cold as ice! No sympathy what so ever! She didn’t have to apologize, but could have at the very least offered her condolences…..something! Then there was the sister, who really got on my nerves……smiling the entire time while answering the questions! She came across exactly like her brother, very arrogant and full of herself! I would be worried about her being an officer! Oh, when the mother was halfway blaming, or saying she didn’t know if it was the victim’s family who verbally attacked her and her family outside the courtroom….that was TERRIBLE!!! The attitude definitely runs in the family!!
The family already had a chance to speak BEFORE he was sentenced during the penalty phase of the trial they should not be allowed to speak a third time after sentence was given they did not allow Darrell Brooks victims and their families speak after he was sentenced.
Death should be the verdict. Criminals get life. Victims get death. You call that justice?
I guess oh Lee Merritt it off what smooth criminal he is
Mam oh man they don't get much hood then that __
When did they get that _ that was though out
So Lee Merritt and his hood friend got to put a show and false imprison an officer
And GET on TV _ too they are special those folks are _ yes indeed _ great acting too
When Attiana Jefferson volunteered to help oh Lee merritt get his money
Open up the front of the house so if Arran Dean walks into the open front door he would have to walk to the bedroom were the same outcome
Or through the back door with the same outcome
Or just walk to the side of the house with the same come
They highly special folks that can go around false imprison officers and steal money
They are crying wolf __
Very clever set up _ highly professional of Lee merritt _
How much did Atritana Jefferson get for Lee merritt ?
Or has Lee merritt not robbed the courts of the money yet ???
Was he waiting to see if he could pill this off ???
Interesting verdict…
the hatred of cops is strong here. no one takes his point of view. a house with open door. he thinks of a burglary and sees a woman in the dark with a gun. how do you know it was the owner? who leaves his door open at night? 11 years is too much
So, Aaron shined a light in her eyes and shot her because she had a gun. So, a criminal can walk in someone's backyard looking through windows and shine a light in the homeowners eyes and claim to be the police and shoot the homeowner and get 11 years.
Why do any of these go prison murderers are nice people
Compensation is looming
still belive he should have gotten the full 20 years. as officers I think they should be held to a higher standard
ok how is his sister that is a officer going to be affected by this trial since it was her brother
I love Atatianna's sister's message @ 5:24:00
RIP🕊❤️🙏🏾
His smug sister at the end, acting like she's in charge of something 🙄
"He's your Prisoner Sheriff." Hardest line Throughout The Trial. 🚮🚮🚮🤍
Why didn't The National Rifle Association (NRA) show up to defend a US citizens' second amendment rights.
When she got shot in her resident trying to protect her family?
What the judge said to the jury at the end was very moving.
She can't light the world from 6ft under. Ffs
his mother and church members couldn’t come up w truly good things to say about him on the stand, all they could say was he helped set up chairs, likes music blah blah, none of them conveyed any sympathy to the victims family either
11 years -3 years=8 ?
The defense attorneys are gross to have ever recommended probation was so offensive they don’t come across as having a shred of humanity
11 years – 20% – – good behave – already served = 6 yrs. Not to bad
I think 11 years is very low for the crime he committed! The punishment certainly doesn’t fit the crime!
jury got right
Out by 2025.
The jurors got it all wrong😡
Merry Christmas Aaron Dean .."Don't drop the soap"😉
