The man has been charged before a few years ago in another state. He ran over a guy (possible another hate crime) and left that state when his court date came up. So yeah it wasn't just words. He had a warrant.

Metro areas have a high amount of ball-busters who like to get on other people's nerves with all types of inappropriate jokes and remarks. Lots of times fights begin to happen, or the victim begins to get harmful or destructive with themselves while the ball-buster laughs and makes more remarks. Shootings also occasionally happen, with the original victim being the one who shoots the ball-buster.
