The attorneys for Maya Kowalski and her family presented their opening statement on Thursday. The Kowalski family filed a lawsuit claiming doctors and the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital pushed Maya’s mother to take her own life. A popular Netflix documentary called “Take Care of Maya” highlights the case. “This was the worst pain in medical science,” attorney Gregory Anderson said when describing Maya’s medical conditions.

  1. THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN EUROPE. disgusting behavior, sorry for all American citizens that have to deal with those people when they need help 🤢

  2. I really hope this case has a noticeable and lasting effect on that ENTIRE hospital. Anyone thinking of getting treatment there should absolutely reconsider. They clearly only care about their own narratives and opinions. I'd never be able to trust a single worker there. I hope this haunts and humiliates EVERY last person that was involved in this girl's case. They should never be allowed to forget that they destroyed an entire family, and directly caused the death of a distraught and INNOCENT mother. She didn't "choose" su!c!de. She thought the system had won (because they had at that point) and she believed that she would never see her child again. Just breaks my heart.

  3. That place needs to be investigated, if it hasn't been already. The entire place is their rocker, not 1 person thought thought this was wrong or questioned her treatment. This isn't just a few people he's talking about.

  4. I dont believe Biata ended her life to get her daughter back. She took her life bc all of it was a lot to manage. This women underwent a lot right that persuaded her to end her life.

  5. I honestly wish that lawyers could follow up on hospitals where children were separated/taken away from their parents and investigate if the hospitals intentions/actions were legit.

  6. I'm not saying that kids don't fake issues – but I find it hard to believe a 9 year old would fake anything that kept her from simply playing with friends. That's what kids want to do more than anything.

  7. I am so glad she gets the justice. Congratulations . The hospital and all the medical staffs are disgusting truly made me sick the way they treated Maya and her family as well.

  8. Victims of Munchausen Syndrome by proxy get better in the hospital when the parents are removed. This is one way of diagnosing the syndrome. If the victim gets worse obviously the mother isn’t causing the illness. The religious manipulation theory is really grasping at straws. This doctor just couldn’t admit she was wrong. I’m surprised she didn’t accuse the mother of witchcraft. I beseech everyone to learn about Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. This case doesn’t fit any of the criteria for that diagnosis except that Maya’s mother was a nurse. Perpetrators usually have some exposure to health care even if only through housekeeping. Doctors end up performing unnecessary treatments on real cases of MSP,so they are either in denial of the diagnosis or too quick to make it. They rarely understand the many features of it.
