He was in the wrong & it seems like he acknowledged it by turning himself in, but this is not a "BREAK IN". He was probably drunk or high and wondered into an unlocked place without having to "break in" to it since the door was unlocked

Get motion detectors outside, and it's a good idea to have an alert dog; you can be sure of a good night's sleep from fear of an intruder with either. Get a ring door camera too if possible.
