WATCH LIVE: ‘Take Care of Maya’ Trial — Kowalski v Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital — Day Six

The family of Maya Kowalski, the subject of Netflix’s “Take Care of Maya,” allege that a report of child abuse from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital led to Beata Kowalski taking her own life. The Kowalski’s are suing doctors, the Department of Children and Families, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for $200 million dollars in connection to Beata’s death. According to court documents, the child abuse case against Beata was pushed forward after Maya’s physician confirmed her condition, complex regional pain syndrome, was not the fault of her parents. During the time Beata was separated from Maya, she took her own life.

  1. JH defense lawyers are really making the case for Maya and any other possible patient that could come after them when they press Dr's on the stand about ketamine treatment when it's found out to be a very efficient and impactful treatment, and fda approved. Yet they are proving they're not even willing to use it, to the point of vilifying parents who seek that for their children in crippling pain, and destroy families

  2. The defense lawyer is sick, and that judge is in cahoots with hospital and state, they are all in bed together, our own states do this crap, hospitals are not god, and they need to stay in there lane

  3. I wanna know what kind of grudge the judge has against the plaintiffs lawyers. He constantly overrules the plaintiffs objections but sustains the defenses. Its truly disgusting.

  4. How many parents here when going to see a doctor/specialist give medical histories of your child(ren's) health and how many of these said drs and specialists takes the word of the parents that their medical diagnosises are factual and how many of said drs and specialists ask for other doctors notes and diagnosises to verify what the parents are stating are true about the child(rens) illnesses and/or diseases? I know of none when it came to my children's medical care. These lawyers especially the defense team are making it sound like these medical professionals did not do their jobs and have knowledge of doing so!

  5. Hearing the testimony from Dr Chopra, and later Maya, is one thing, but the photos and videos really hammer it home. How anyone could ever have accused her of faking is APPALLING. Maya's strength and determination are remarkable. I'm so glad she went into remission, but she never should have had to go through what she did to get there.

  6. Im late be able to watch this trial but the way that attorney attacked the Dr is crazy. Have that same energy towards the Drs and nurses at JH who failed in every way.

  7. This is just one case in a public eye but there are many cases happening right now that we don't know about. I so hope they win for themselves, for Beata and other families who suffered in silence. Maya your mum is right beside you,you are your mother's daughter.❤

  8. Not helpful & inappropriate. Spouting off about best kept secret and big pharma. May be he feels disrespected by defense insinuating useless treatment. Doesn’t help plaintive if acts like quack or against accepted medical practices.

  9. Defense always trying to insinuate pain worse when mom there but that h is s assumption. Just because unable to complete exam first time and mom there does not mean proven connection. It may be maya did behave I but different when mom there for whatever reason IDK

  10. So cruel and not appropriate. Hadn’t been formally charged with crime and wouldn’t jet her hug her daughter. I see no point or excuse for this

  11. Beata I know stressed and upset but screaming at staff going to sue them never good idea. Not sure if hospital retaliated by not allowing her see Maya but I’m sure it had them looking at her different with all else going on

  12. This problem even doctors different opinion on same med. maybe how they learned about or how interpreted data. Also this doctor using word withdrawal but talks about side affect. Feeling a bit off while waking up after ketamine is not withdrawal. Out and out wrong view of what withdrawal means.

  13. May seem like a small thing but it shouldn’t have been allowed. The doctor answered question about deep tendon reflexes, that maya able to tolerate. He stated yes but that it was uncomfortable Defense lawyer stated she wasn’t very happy about it. This was not a question but a statement, that is now on record, making it have negative connotation; that Maya wasn’t happy about it. That not based on true discomfort but child being difficult or faking it. So inappropriate. Her lawyer should have objected. The lawyer saying that knew exactly what he was doing and hoping to achieve. Unfortunately this doctor not really a great witness. He didn’t do some things should have and does not come across as confident.

  14. I don’t think they understand hyper link. When do computer charting some of the fields self populate. So if had a diagnosis out in by someone it might bring up other fields But each person notes are their own words.

  15. I almost cried when PT did when Beatta brought up. Defense trying to make it as if sometimes maya different it meant she was faking. It’s deplorable.

  16. They were incredibly disrespectful to that neurologist. I don't believe he did anything wrong by giving his opinion based off the information that he was given and his assessment of Maya. He was trying to help find a way to decrease her pain. I am disgusted by those defense attorneys. Shame on them.

  17. I’m so happy with the way this physical therapist was cross examined (I know they were trying to “trip her up” or whatever) but what it ACTUALLY did was it proved with dr chopra was saying

“Once something is added to a patients chart no one is comfortable removing it; they just carry it over” WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE THERAPIST SAID! so he’s accidentally proving dr chopras honesty and integrity!!!!

    Thx so much defense! lol
