Former Columbus police vice squad officer Andrew Mitchell was indicted on murder and voluntary manslaughter charges for the death of 23-year-old Donna Castleberry. Mitchell went to trial in the spring of 2022, but in April, a judge declared a mistrial because jurors couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict. On the night Castleberry was killed, Mitchell allegedly picked her up in an unmarked police car during an undercover prostitution sting. Mitchell claims Castleberry stabbed him, so he shot her out of self defense. However, during the first trial, prosecutors said that she was shot in the back of Mitchell’s car while attempting to escape.

Anyone notice Sargeant evans lipping the questions as they were being asked to him?
If he had her blocked in on the passenger side of the car why didn't he just get out of the car and hold at gun point until back up came? Cops just love use deadly force at all times. Just Sick!!!!!!¡
GUILTY FOR SURE FOR THE MURDER HE IS COPSPLANNING LIKE ALL COPS DO WHEN GET CAUGHT BREAKING THE LAW
He was totally in the right! Not guilty.
I'm sorry that Donna died, but had she not pulled out the knife and cut him and began choking him with her foot, all bets were off. She was in the wrong with her warrant, and shouldn't have been working the streets.
The female prosecutor was horrible!
With all the statements/discussions about target practice (especially) the morning of, being 5 times a year as well as other times throughout… no one has asked how Mitchell scored on ANY of those practices/testing. Was he right on the pass-fail line often, "top of the class" so to speak or meh… just average?? So far, his actual performance on this has NEVER been mentioned but the subject has been brought up time & time again.
This man really thinks you can't own handcuffs and handcuff keys unless you're a police officer 😭 I got news for you sir I have cuffs fuzzy and not in a trunk I'm my room … youbdont have to be an officer
I don’t believe 93% of what this defendant is saying. The number of contradictions from 1 sentence to the next is unbelievable. Did you see the knife? – "No. I didn’t see it." – So where was it when you had a hold of her arms? – "It was in her hand?" – So you DID see it. – "No. I never saw it " …. Huh??🤔 How did you know it was in her hand if you never saw it?? And this was just ONE exchange.
For a direct exam – this questioning seems to be awfully leading.
I don’t like how the defendant just blamed the victim (he shot and killed) during his testimony. Sounds a lot like an arrogant, narcissistic, abusive spouse who blames their partner for beating them. “She made me hit her/he made me hit him”. Like none of his actions were wrong or didn’t contribute to the outcome. 😡 Right…he did everything perfectly. It was all her fault. 😮🙄
@ yer mom said……
It actually starts at (18:22) before the defendant takes the stand.
Dirty cop, he’s guilty
Why didn’t he render aid to her….emt said she had a heartbeat
To me, this was a senseless murder. But, I think he had Miss Castleberry right where he wanted -against a wall (child locks) and no way out!
She had to defend herself; he was alive, talking about his wounds on the stand, and she lost her life, in my opinion, to a cowardly officer who doesn't know how to uphold "To serve and protect" or to tell the truth.
I have a lot of respect for police officers, the good ones.
However, the department should review this cop's "written reports" in the past. Any officer who admits in court that he doesn't write an actual account (by remembering everything) in an incident report should not be on the force. This means this officer jeopardized the lives of folks who may be sitting in jail/prison due to his incompetency.
He was a threat to Miss Castleberry when he picked her up.
I think he saw a way (without) proper identification for a "free service!" There I said it!
He knew he didn't have all his "working elements; badge, radio." And he mentioned that the captain would reprimand him. He could have returned to his car to retrieve them after he parked and watched Miss Castleberry to see if she would get inside the "John's" truck.
I think, or as he repeatedly says, my "belief" (when he was there), with selective memory, his EGO was "bruised" because it didn't go down the way he thought he would – his "INCONSISTENCIES" speak volumes.
Miss Castleberry's so-called "dangerous foot" on his neck (his weight versus her weight); his hands were free to knock her "dangerous foot" away and "OPEN" the door – he was the threat!
"I am brown, and marks aren't visible," he said. I am "brown," too -and if it is the way he described, his neck should have been in a brace.
How did he handle prior arrests; indeed, he has dealt with suspects over 100 pounds or more -I surmise Miss Castleberry was a little over 100 pounds – why was he on the force? "I'll wait."
I don't know how the first jurors in the first trial got it wrong, and I know he is innocent until proven guilty.
But, again, he always had a way out – he never used the cell phone to call 9-1-1 -and one more thing, when he couldn't convince her that he was a cop and didn't have all his "working elements," why not let her go?
By the way, the law is not based on 'Beliefs!"
This was "Overkill!"
Good job so far, prosecutors.
I hope the jurors get it right this time and give this family justice!
Question, why is she terrified and screaming at the top of her lungs for help, if she had a knife? Then the knife is found on the front seat next to him? Not buying the story. At all.
OMG. This guy was fighting for his life. Absolutely not guilty!
When I watched the opening statement, I figured for sure he was guilty, but after listening to him testifying that she attacked him, stabbed him and choked him, I am not so sure anymore.
This guy's guilty of murder, he was working alone ? Come on…. and it sounds like he was giving the girls a hard time knowing he could hide behind the badge if he needed to, I believe he has another lawsuit with the same charge, it should have ended when he got out of the car.
Everyone in Columbus knows you're a pervert and killed that girl because you wasn't paying
This snake is BS
Guilty,
Why does Law and Crime put the awful screeching tone during breaks? 😳
So much for listening while trying to sleep 😴 💤
The female defense attorney gives off sociopath vibes
Just love the blasting whistle between sessions. Thanks L&
C .
He was out by himself undercover with a duty to arrest prostitutes as is normal for vice.
He didn’t have his badge on him, it’s not required when in vice and is not a violation of policy as the state keep suggesting.
He had his walkie hidden elsewhere as they decop their car, also usual practice.
She was a violent and volatile prostitute with a warrant out for her arrest.
Cop partners were too slow to assist.
State are using this overworked and credible cop as a scapegoat.
I feel so sad for him because they’ll only make an example of him – that’s how the state and the government remain in authority. Poor guy and his family 🙏😞
😂😂😂fuss! I think I know why you picked her up😂😂
It starts at 1:15:12 with the Defendant taking the stand.
It's nothing but noise prior to that timestamp.
