WATCH LIVE: Ice Cream Man Murder Sentencing — FL v. Michael Keetley

Former ice cream truck driver Michael Keetley is being sentenced today after he was convicted in a retrial for shooting six people on Thanksgiving 2010, killing two brothers, and injuring four others. Prosecutors argued that Keetley was out for revenge after his ice cream truck was robbed for $12, but mistakenly targeted the wrong suspects. Keetley’s first trial in February 2020 resulted in a deadlocked jury. The former ice cream man was found guilty in March of two first-degree murder charges and four counts of attempted murder.

  1. 12 years for Justice for the murder of 2 brothers over 12 USD$ and vigilante justice got the wrong perps. I'm sure the Ice cream man was tired of being robbed and for such small amounts, the cops didn't bother to investigate much of their time to find the perps so he took justice into his own hands v investing in cameras around his truck and got the evidence on video for the cops which is what I would have done.

  2. No way, he was convinced!? After a mistrial that was so abysmal prepared. Last time the witnesses couldn't identify him, said he wear something different and couldn't identify his car or the weapon he used. I didn't watched this trial, but the last mistrial was really terrible run by the prosecutor and the witnesses weren't creditable at all. Not because of their character, but because a) they already had a bias against him because of some rumors, and b) they couldn't identify anything correctly.

  3. It’s baloney that the defense says he could not do it. My husband’s hand was shattered in a farming accident. It is held together by plates and pins. He is able to shoot every gun we have.

  4. This is my favourite Judge he’s so clear in his instructions. The Defence attorney needs to, stop his ranting. He repeats repeats repeats , he’s not helping the defendant. Who is guilty and needs to be locked up for life .

  5. It’s too bad they took the death penalty off the table. I understand why they felt they had to but it’s still a shame that Keetley didn’t have to face the same sentence he meted out on those innocent people. I truly believe that if he had not been caught more people would have died once he realized he shot the wrong people.

  6. Am I a bad person for cringing when witness statements get to preachy? People can say what they want but when it’s overkill on the God bs it irks me a bit.

  7. I understand the defense is fighting for their client but… he has rights also. So to say that Keetley wants to address the court but he MUST remain silent because of appellate issues is just WRONG. Just like taking the stand, his attys can advise him but it is ultimately HIS decision whether to or not. To say he’s not allowed at speak goes against his rights. (Yes, I understand he’s taking his attys advise here… it’s just the way it was worded that got me.)

  8. I see a lot of comments from people who haven't been following this case, and/or didn't watch the trials. This is an ugly miscarriage of justice both for the families of the men who died, the men who were injured, and for Michael Keetley. Just having a warm body behind bars isn't justice.

There's plenty of things about how this case happened to complain about, but if you take away just one question, let it be: how did a text message accusing Keetley of shooting these men start circulating among the victims' social circles at a time when none of the eyewitnesses were able to identify him (including not picking him from a photo lineup he was in; saying the shooter was someone they'd never seen before though they had seen/knew Keetley as the ice cream man who let them and their kids buy things on credit; described a shooter a hundred pounds heavier; etc.). Simplified: Who was accusing Michael Keetley of having shot their friends before any of those friends — the only witnesses — knew it was Michael Keetley who (allegedly) shot them?

  9. Keetley was an easy fall guy with a motive everyone knew about simply because he asked for his own justice… and the real killers took advantage of that. The jury got this one wrong! It's a dangerous time to be going through the court system right now.

  10. I've never seen a murder trial where the judge lets the victims family directly address the defendant during the victim impact statements. The judges usually have them address the court.
