The parents of Joseph McMullin, the 33-year-old Texas man killed during a first date on April 19, filed a lawsuit against the alleged drunk driver who is accused of killing him. Kristina Chambers now faces a $1 million wrongful death suit on top of the manslaughter charge for McMullin’s death. The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy discusses the civil case with the lawyer representing McMullin’s family, Jesus Garcia, and the defense attorney representing Chambers in her criminal case, Mark Thiessen.

  1. Being drunk > not a crime……. Driving a car > not a crime. Driving a car while drunk > illegal. Driving a car and killing someone should be life without parole. Killing someone while under the influence of anything should be twice as bad as knowingly killing someone because the negligence started with not caring about yourself or self control to even start caring about others. One life is not worth more than another, he is gone….. not coming back. She should not be able to come back to society either.

  2. I saw his date talk on the news. You know she’s devastated because he was way too good looking for her. She will NEVER come close to a fit and handsome young man like him again.

  3. I got cpl DUIs in my 20s when i was in my party days. Looking back i was very lucky i didnt get into accident or kill anyone or myself. Ive been sober 4 years and its best decesion ive made. Man this is tough to hear guy lost his life. Very sorry for his fam.

  4. I despise drunk drivers! Willingly getting into to the drivers seat after drinking is premeditated imo. The drivers don’t always kill people but more often cause life altering injuries. They often are repeat offenders!

  5. The death of Joseph McMullin is a terrible tragedy. I have problems with timing of this lawsuit and comments made by all the attorneys. Let the authorities investigate the circumstances of Joseph's death and prosecute Chambers. The lawsuit has brought more attention on social media, further tainting the jury pool. The defendant's lawyer attempt to minimize Joseph's death as a mere accident is infuriating, as drunk driving is a crime. Can't admit you're sorry because it might imply guilt. Prosecutor made public statements before all the evidence is collected, makes me wonder if he is an elected official looking for sound bytes.

  6. She didn't do it on purpose. She was impaired by the huge amount of alcohol. Perhaps she should be held accountable for involuntary manslaughter but she couldn't have made a decision to drive under the circumstances. It's super sad.

  7. Ah yes… blame the bar. I’ve never been to drunk to say “I’m gonna drive home” and I’ve been blackout multiple times. It is the DRUNK DRIVERS fault and only hers. Take responsibility ffs

  8. So, bartenders now have to give a breathalyzer test prior to serving a drink? I hate lawyers with a passion.

Here is a prime example pf their sleaziness. In Missouri you use to be allowed to go to court and confer with the prosecutor prior to appearing before the judge and offer to pay double the fine to reduce a traffic ticket to a nonmoving violation. Obviously, they would look at your prior record before agreeing. Now you can only do this with a lawyer. So, what use to be a $300 fine for the government coffers, now a lawyer gets a piece of the pie, and it is still about $300 to do this.

  9. Well one thing is for sure she was drunk driving no matter how fast she was going and it was more than likely over the speed limit. She killed a man with her car while driving it drunk so either way she's wrong period

  10. I say it all the time…approach crossing the street or being near the street similar to the way a soldier approaches a battlefield. Make sure your phone, whatever you have is packed it in your pockets, and you're ready to lunge to the side or run to avoid being killed. And don't be in a hurry. Stand there for an hour if necessary before it's safe. You don't know what kind of driver training they've had. I know for a fact some people think if they stop for a pedestrian that they'll be killed being rear ended. That's likely forefront on their mind, so consider that before walking in front of anyone. In this case the drunk was on the sidewalk, and you can't be complacent there either.
