Principal Accused of Turning Blind Eye to His Son’s Sexual Abuse of 5-Year-Old Girl

A Pennsylvania elementary school principal was charged with “willingly” failing to report the alleged sexual abuse of a 5-year-old girl at the hands of his 19-year-old son. Fifty-one-year-old Gregory Mandalas allegedly turned a blind eye to the perverted acts of his son, Matthew Mandalas. The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy discusses the investigation with Florina Altshiler, a defense attorney with a specialty in the Child Victims Act and sexual misconduct defense.

  1. Shame on him for trying to protect his son rather than following the law. He should be fired as an educator…you can’t pick and choose what you want to obey the the law. Disgusting!

  2. Hypothetically, what if his son was 16 and the girl was the same age as this girl 5? Would the courts see it as cut and dry for the son or would it be complicated since he was still a minor himself?

  3. You both go over his mandatory reporting, multiple times, and in the same breath excuse his refusal to report because it’s his son.

    I. Do. Not. Care. If. It. Is. My. Son. If my kid has done something illegal that hurts someone else, he’d getting turned into the cops, and better hope they get there before I do. And ANY REASONABLE PARENT would do the same thing. You protect kids, no matter what, even if it means protecting other kids from your kids. And if you can’t do that, for whatever reason, I hope your prison cell is comfy.

  4. Thanking God my daughter ( who is disabled) would have macked both of his eyeballs right out of the sockets!!!!!! She is 32 but has been learning to defend herself since she was 3

  5. Ya well why is this about the father? The son is an adult right? Unless the son lives at the fathers resident how would he even be charged with a crime? The coverage is laking in facts.

  6. There are a lot more enablers than predators. Predators need and rely very heavily on their enablers/family to look the other way and our right lie to protect predators.

  7. "I can see the conflict as a parent"???? Nope! I can't! If I ever found my sons had done anything like this I'd be hauling their behind to the police faster than they could blink! My kids know I take it incredibly seriously that they take responsibility for their actions. I will support them and get them help. But I will NOT hide or cover up illegal activities especially of this nature. Being a good parent doesn't mean allowing your child to live consequence free.

  8. They definitely need to check his son's entire online activity and Google searches because like you said it doesn't happen in a vacuum and I think that there's probably CP somewhere on his devices

  9. Sick! Parents need to quit protecting their children that they failed by not teaching them what is right and wrong against violating others. Its the parents fault for continually "babying" their kids and adult kids.

  10. I'm not sure if he's a good parent or not, but with a son committing such a bad crime, I doubt that he is. Bad parenting bites him in the behind big time.

  11. This exact thing happened at our school/town and he is still the Principal here 😡 he continued to allow his son to play with kids at his home, alone, after his son was caught TWICE!!

  12. I've always worked in positions that were mandated reporters and I have made countless reports. I have also heard other reporters talk about areas where they wouldn't report with all kinds of excuses. I'm glad this man was charged. I think the mandated reporter law is rarely enforced.

  13. The wrong way to parent is to protect your children from punishments and accountability. You are doing them no favors. If your children do wrong, its up to you to report it if necessary.

  14. You should have a legal obligation to report this type of crimes no matter what you do for work or what relation you have with the suspect. Otherwise you are compliant.
