Didn’t Scot Peterson say he was securing the perimeter?
Fed Supreme Court has ruled. Law enforcement has NO DUTY to protect. That is, it is not treason or deriliction of duty to not put their life on the line. If they do it, great, and that is what you SHOULD do. But, it is NOT what you HAVE to do. These are a SMALL percentage of the people protecting our communities. The ones actually doing their jobs are in fear of prosecution by D.A.'s for doing thier jobs. Think about that when you send your kids to school.
I don't get how they're trying to charge of security guard with a crime but no police faced charges when they stood outside the school and refused to go in to save the kids and then made the excuse that it is not the officer's job to go in there and save anyone , not their job to put their self in danger when their model is literally protect and serve or some variation of that. But argued that their job is not actually their job.
Florida Sherrifs Deputy. Tactical cover from harm's way. Distance is covered by movement. His job is to move towards the sound of gunfire. Active Shooter training is active shooter training.
Peterson is a coward and should hang his head in shame. School shootings happen because of cowards like him getting away with it
Coward
Leading cause for children under 18? You mean 19?
While I don't wish to "sling mud" or judge what people do when put in life threatening or stressful situations I feel that as a gun owner myself it's part of my responsibility as a firearm owner to help defend those around me that do not possess a firearm or are otherwise unable to defend themselves. Many gun owners feel this way. While I don't know how I may respond when presented with a situation like this I'd like to believe that I would respond accordingly. In my heart I know the security guard wishes he had and that he could change the past and what he did. While he will now face the legal consequences of his actions (or inaction) I know that whatever punishment imposed upon him pales with the punishment he imposes on himself daily. After this man pays his debt to society we should all let him live the rest of his life without the publics harassment. I'd say let him live his life in peace, but I fear this man may never find peace…
anyone inside the vehicle?aint not ni Aint not Aint not
Tactical cover , say what???
COWARD
Jesus… I bet he spent years using that badge to get us way… another spineless good old boy with a gun who did nothing.
Typical. Every school shooting the officers stand outside and watch your children being shot. Nothing new here.
Any housewife with a handgun is worth a hundred police officers.
That's every shooting that's ever happened in any school. Nothing new here. Worthless..
In the event of an active school attack, school-based law enforcement officers should do the best they can to fill the gap until other first responders can arrive. That will probably mean adopting a solo response to the threat.
Officers ( Not SWAT, but officers since they are all trained in Active Shooter and told YOU MUST go in even if its just you) have three primary goals in responding to an active attack on their school. These goals are:
ISOLATE – Drive or segregate the attacker in an area where their capacity to harm students, staff or visitors is minimized until more first responders arrive.
DISTRACT – Engage the attacker so that they have a diminished capacity to hurt students, staff or visitors. If they are engaged with the officer(s) they will be less capable of hurting innocents. It also buys time for students, staff and visitors to implement their Avoid-Deny-Defend (ADD) strategies.
NEUTRALIZE – Take away the attacker’s capacity to harm other people. This may include the use of deadly force, disabling an attacker, or disarming an attacker and taking them into custody.
Achieving any of these three goals is an acceptable outcome. For example, if an officer forces an attacker into a room or area where they are isolated, cannot escape, and can do no more harm to students, staff, or visitors, the officer is not obligated to enter the room to deal with the attacker. They should maintain the isolation until other first responders arrive, treating the situation as a barricaded subject. If a school-based officer were to drive the attacker from the campus, the officer has no obligation to pursue the attacker away from the school. He/she should communicate the attacker’s last known location and direction to responders then start assisting the injured. An appropriate response for a school-based officer would be to remain at the school and ensure the attacker does not return.
Several officers have been criticized after events such as the shooting in Parkland, FL for a perceived failure to respond. Video footage of an officer “staging” outside the building while the attack in Parkland was going on drew a great deal of public criticism. There has been significant public and legislative debate about sanctioning peace officers who fail to act to stop the carnage during active shooter events at schools. Citizens have a reasonable expectation that police officers are willing to take risks to reduce casualties during active shooter event. Part of the reasoning behind House Bill 2195 was to ensure that Texas school-based law enforcement officers receive training specific to their role in stopping school shootings.
Why kills him makes me sick
Typical, it's a new norm.
A school is a football field long. You heard it here first. "It's unimaginably big, you'd have to be there to see the whole thing". What a throw away defense.
It is very tragic. It is a terrifying situation. This gentlemen should not be charged for being afraid or scared or running. I would be afraid too. Let each officer feel it out for themselves. Never stop protecting yourself. Instead of criminally charging this man for his cowardice, why can’t we just acknowledge the bravery of those who did help. And if we become limited in those willing to help maybe then finally government will help us take on the NRA. In Uvalde one person was able to capacitate an entire cities police force. Let’s stop blaming people for being afraid and instead stop the spread of these weapons.
Absolute coward
So if this man is convicted then what happens to the UVALDE POLICE?
Only in America all this unspeakable crimes do happen.. is America a cursed country?
Will this set the stage for the 30+ police officers in Texas (a state known for loving guns and being tough on "crime") that just stood around as kids got shot.
An act not worthy of emulation
In DeShaney v Winnebago 1989 the supreme court ruled that law enforcement is under no obligation to help when we are in danger.
When you have a very bad case to defend yourself against, your best friend is to drag it out. The longer it takes for Cates to get in front of a jury the more sympathetic the jury will be.
Coward Tyrant no such thing as a good cop not one
Yeah America give up your guns the police will protect you
Make him share a cell with Cruz for life
YOU WOULDVE HAD TO KILL ME TO STOP ME FROM GOING IN TO SAVE CHILDREN . ID SLAP TFO YOU TRYING TO STOP ME
I WOULD RUN RIGHT TF AT THE MF KILLING CHILDREN AND ENDED THAT DEMON . FOH . YELLOW BELLY IS DERELICTION OF DUTY . HIS ACTIONS DO NOTTTT LOOK BRAVE .
Im honestly surprised this officer is even on trial. The Supreme court has confirmed (more than once) that police officers have absolutely no responsibility (legally or not) to protect citizens from violence or death.
This guy is gross if it's true that he is a coward. Reminds me of the female cop in Uvalde that said something like she would go inside the building if it were here children but then refused to go in for other people's children. These people are sick. They all need criminal charges on them.
A good officer is willing to risk his or her life for the greater good.
The Supreme court has already ruled that the police have no duty to act. This whole trial is mute.
A coward cop? You don't say?
ALL cops are oath breaking cowards and traitors to the constitution and the people of the United States.
4 years to get here is beyond belief!!!
Uvalde ?
Yeah ill keep my guns in the tool shed.. and when my family is being robbed and threatened in OUR home. Ill tell the bad guys give me 4 minutes. I have to go to the tool shed to get my guns and then gaddda go to the attic for the ammo.. smh teach your kids the right way
he is just as bad as the shooter
Hmm, he should have quit earlier and wert home.
Coward cops = dereliction of duty. You can't be a coward if you're a cop.
17 people is fckn insane….Like real people just like you!
Once again, COWARD😢
Coward, your life was more important than the children 😤😢
Police aren't there to protect anyone except our corrupt tyrants in government and generate revenue for it, that's it. I don't care how many police cars you see with the slogan "Protect & Serve" painted somewhere on it the Supreme Court ruled they don't have to protect anyone, and sadly yes that even includes kids. Most that go into the profession are bullies who get off on power trips of being over people and even worse the lot that get security jobs at like schools get them because 99.9% of the time it's an easy job with no work involved.
Between this guy and the Uvalde Cops everyone should see why it would be better to have trained teachers armed that wanted to be and why everyone would be safer if they had their own guns to protect themselves and their families.
That cop is a little girl.
Whoa. The last time I’ve heard of that ex-officer was that he was released from prison early. Seems like he still won’t get away with being a bystander that easy.
Let the poor officer go. If he didn’t find the shooter, give him benefit of the doubt. He’s an older guy. And if he truly chicken out he has casualties on his conscious for the rest of his life and that’s enough
