How the media influenced a mother’s death sentence after a fatal robbery

This Week on True Crime News The Podcast: Years after the execution of Barbara Graham, questions remain about her real involvement in a robbery that turned fatal. Was she the cold-hearted killer prosecutors and the press made her out to be? Or was the struggling woman an easy scapegoat in a shaky case?

Marcia Clark joins host Ana Garcia.

  1. I’m not buying that this woman is innocent. We are supposed to believe that she was taken advantage of by her cohorts, but then she said this is not the type of woman that lets someone take advantage of them. Maybe she was just hanging out with the wrong crowd but that still makes you guilty in my eyes.

  2. ❤❤ I remember as a 6-7 yr old child watching Susan Hayward play Barbara, in "I Want To Live" on "Saturday Night at the Movies" on one of the 3 networks…it really stuck with me, crying and crying when she went to the gas chamber. Ed Montgomery, writing reporter from SFO, sensationalized and enflamed the public as he did with the Burton Abbott case, in the mid fifties, that was executed as well, when there were a better suspect!
    Excellent Ana and Marcia!!💯💯❤❤

  3. It amazes me that two strong, self-actualizing women like Ana and Marcia can't give another woman credit for having made her own, very bad choices. If having a crappy, unfulfilled childhood ruins one forever, why am I not a serial killer? Because CHOICES. Barbara's bad choices put her in the company of some rough fellows who thought they had an easy payout. She would have shared in that had she gotten away with it. Did she mature in prison? Many do.
(There's no mention of motherhood in the interview, just the headline. Giving birth is a biological process. It doesn't make the woman a saint any more than paternity does for a man. We don't spare folks from legal punishment because they've procreated.)

  4. I live in a building where a very sad case happened. And the teen that committed the crime may be let out soon. Very tough on the community. As his young victim is never coming back.
