In this episode of “True Crime News,” A summer outing with friends turned deadly when a man approached the group asking if they saw a cellphone. The man took out a knife and started stabbing several teens, killing 17-year-old Isaac Schuman and injuring others. The suspect, Nic Miu, claimed self-defense, but the jury disagreed. Plus, Kara Nichols vanished after meeting up with a man from an escort site, and her family quickly reported her missing. What happened to Kara?

    If he would have stayed and told the truth probably would have been acquitted because the so called victims were the instigators and aggressors initially

    Why didn’t the other adults come to Nick’s aid? I didn’t feel the kids were going to hurt this man. He should have been an adult, walked away & called the police. Why would he have a knife while rafting & then stab several people. You don’t take the law in your own hands. Sorry. Although I do agree the teens were acting horribly but to be stabbed….No!

    This is BS. While it is tragic that one of the teens died, the teens in this scenario were the ones who instigated the drama and then amped it up. This man should not have been convicted of this.

    Ok if Kyle Ritten, got away with "Self-Defense" using a rifle to take people out, he wasn't even getting pushed at the time. This man should never have been convicted. If so then Kyle should be guilty too.

    What a misleading headline. Those teens harassed and baited him. It’s definitely a tragedy but he shouldn’t have been convicted. How much bullying is someone supposed to endure not to mention his backstory and why he was so afraid.

    This comment section is the perfect example of the major levelsnof cognitive dissonance that white people are willing to enact in order to ignore the beginning of a story, and start at the middle to absolve the actual aggressor of their actions. The agression came from the man FIRST. He was asked to leave multiple times. The idea "he has to defend himself from a mob" ended the moment he continued to follow and beg the mob for a fight.

    I’m genuinely shocked by how many people think this comes under self defence 😮. Charges of 1st degree murder are levied only when there is a lot of evidence, otherwise they tend to go for a lower charge that they think they will get a conviction on. This case was proved beyond a reasonable doubt to 12 jurors members, they likely come from varying backgrounds and don’t just agree on everything. The outcome is likely because it was all filmed.

    I can only think that anyone defending him didn’t see the full video that the jury did and should go watch it. The pertinent points I see are;

    -1) He was hassling them a lot longer than shown here
    -2) He was getting more aggressive – ignoring the teens and his own group asking him to stop
    3) He had tons of space behind him to leave, but refused.
    4) The teens started name calling after he became more aggressive. It wasn’t smart clearly, but they wanted him to leave and most of us did silly things as teens. Words don’t warrant any use of self defence. It was his ego that fuelled him. He still could have left at this point.
    5) When he still wouldn’t leave, one of them pushed him. That is the one thing a self defence claim could hang on. However, he still could have left and gone back to his group.
    6) This man wore just swimming trunks for a lazy day at the river, but packed a large knife?
    7) He didn’t step back and show the knife in an attempt to be able to leave (which he still could have at any point since that was the only thing the kids were asking for). Instead, he concealed it close to his side until he was close enough to kill.
    8) As seen by the scar shown in court, he gutted them from stomach to pubic area – the boy who died had his guts held in by friends. That’s not self defence.

    AFTER

    1) He showed how easily he could have left by returning to his group and casually leaving the blood filled water
    2) didn’t go somewhere safe and call the police to say he had to use self defence – he just pretended it wasn’t him.
    3) He lied that the kid pulled the knife and he took it, accidentally injuring the teens in the process
    4) He only decided to use self defence as an excuse when made aware the entire thing was filmed, as there was no other defence to use at that point. It would never have worked though because the full video is very clear.

    Kids need to learn not to provoke adults, some will see it as good humor and will know its kids being kids, others who have anger issues however will retaliate in the most brutal way. This isnt the first time lives were lost because miners upsetted the wrong adult.

    the man should not have been charged. faced with multiple attackers, in water, he was faced with a deadly force threat and had the right to respond with deadly force to defend himself. the trial was BS.

    I am from Romania 🇷🇴 and watched the case on Crime & Investigation only 2 days ago. This guy, Niculae Miu, is from my country & he's probably 15 yrs younger than me. Sorry, I can't agree with those who said he was right to protect himself. Why a knife in his pocket? Was he defending from sharks and alligators? Why go to the bunch of young people in the first place? He was definitely looking to cause troubles. And then the lies he said in Court. "In Romania, non-Communist party members were attacked, imprisoned by the political militia, his parents beaten…". All lies, it wasn't quite like that. So, Nic would've taken a beating for invading that group's space. So what. But he decided to take a kid's life. Isaac's life will forever be lost.

    Seems Nick was in the right. He confronted this group over his thoughts, then they ALL started attaching him. Lying and leaving is what sealed his fate. Also, helping the prosecutor his first language was not English and he didn't remain silent.
