Wow that Chad Daybell is quite the manipulator! Lori Vallow – what is her deal? She seems to have made too many (manipulative & other) choices of her own to be crazy. Is she really an extreme religious fanatic? I think it's just her "using" religion to cover her bum. These 2 are some of the worst human beings to have murdered children. I believe they are equally guilty.
Maybe this overly simplistic, but what does it matter if she was brainwashed because she's obviously so narcissistic (creepy Mrs. America thing and her need for validation because of her looks). She loved the rush that she got from Chad Dumbell's validation of her as a supreme being. It was her own narcissism that created her need to kill Tammy and the kids. There was no brainwashing involved for either one. They are both sociopaths and were already going off the rails before they connected. It amazes and saddens me that the system aided Lori in her craziness.
Her ex Alex Cox tried his best to get himself and those kids away from her. He wasn't listened too– at all. Just because someone is a "mother" doesn't mean the system should automatically default custody in their favor. They even let her brother get away with killing Cox. You all should make sure that you video all interviews. Lori Daybell was a domes day earther before she met her new husband. The two of the set out to kill the people closest around. I guess its easier to paint Lori as a victim, when in fact, she was always a monster and a vile manipulator. When it garnered her attention, money and accolades, she was a "doting mother". When she wanted to get rid of Charles and find someone she could better control, she moved down to Chad Daybell. He's ugly, dumpy, plodding and frumpy, so it was easy for her to convince him she was an "exalted goddess". SHE was the one whose children had the social security funds she wanted, so HER children had to die. Chad Daybell was in no way a cult leader until Lori came around, pumped up his ego, and made him believe he was capable of greatness. SHE was the mastermind and the leader, and Alex was devoted to HER and carried out HER orders. When Chad said JJ was still himself and not ready to be killed, Lori was disappointed and when Chad didn't get rid of Tammy quickly enough for Lori's liking, Lori essentially theatened to leave him if he didn't get her out of the way. Chad Daybell is not at all charismatic and could never attract a cult of personality, because he has none of the necessary attributes…like a personality. Lori, however, absolutely does, and she took full advantage of it. I'm sick of everyone touting Chad as the mastermind of that pathetic little group. He was a willing dupe. Period. Lori was the godfather and Chad and Alex were her mindless, brainless, unwitting foot soldiers. I think Chad and Alex both believed, but I do not buy that Lori did. Lori got attention for her role as a "good mother", had a wealthy husband who adored her, and was a dutiful Mormon housewife. When that wasn't enough anymore, her looks began to fade with each passing year, and she wasn't getting the attention she craved, so she had to get rid of Charles and find someone who would worship her as the goddess she believed herself to be. Once Charles was gone along wth her only real source of income, she needed money, and once she realized Charles had removed her as the beneficiary of his life insurance, the kids had to go so she could use their social security payments. When that wasn't enough and she wanted more money, Tammy had to go so she and her stooge, Chad, could use Tammy's life insurance money. She didn't really care about her kids, and she certainly never cared about Chad Daybell. She pretends to love him because she won't admit that greed is behind all of it, but it's as much of an act as it was when she pretended to be a devoted LDS church member and devoted mother. Whatever Lori wants, Lori gets, and anyone who gets in her way has to die. End of story.
I think that Military can be included in groups that practise this method of control. Their are many soldiers who come back from missions that have left them wrestling with trauma and seriously questioning that their actions while in service. This is not to say that Military service is nafarious or that people who have served are anything less than well intended or even selfless or heroic. It is only to say that such practices are not soley the domain of identified cults or religions.

I don't know why people bother to listen to this when all they can do is shoot your ideas. They just have their minds made up that because her brother killed the kids that she was an evil person. They are totally unable to see that some people can become so involved with religiosity and end-of-times obsession that they really go off the deep end and truly believe that their children are with God. It is a shame because this isn't the only case of women who believe that God told them to do something or that God told them the children were evil. In this case, it was an obsession with the end of times. My parents were Jehovah's Witnesses. I could tell some unbelievable stories. They were "True Believers." My sister is mentally ill and I have spent many years in therapy. I wish people could understand just how devasting it is to get involved in a cult.

It is no coincidence that all the people from the judge, prosecution, and police were members of the LDS Church. I heard that even her attorneys were members. I do believe that they did understand that Lorie was brainwashed, but she did not want mental health brought up until after she was found guilty.

Honestly, I think that there are a few very popular fundamentalist Christian religions that teach their adherents that they are among “the elect,” that these are the last days before Armageddon and the return of Christ, and that they are saving people by enforcing their beliefs on others by legislating against things like abortion, lgbtq people, etc. They have extended their preaching to include Trump, saying that he’s has been called of God and excusing his behavior by telling followers that “God uses imperfect vessels,” like King David, to achieve his aims. They tell their followers that it’s up to them to take action in order to “bring about” the end of days. Then the preachers rake in the money and buy the jets that God tells them that they need; not really concerned about whether their followers bomb abortion clinics, raid the Capitol, or threaten to hang the VP.
Yet to see ANY religion that is not a cult and the tap dancing that the religious do to attempt to separate themselves from the infamous minor religious cults is amazing.
