The low country of South Carolina is no stranger to the Murdaugh name and their powerful family. Alex Murdaugh, a fourth-generation lawyer of the family, currently faces a slew of charges against him, including allegations he murdered his wife and son. Strange deaths of people close to the prominent family have prompted the question of whether the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh, along with Alex’s other misdeeds, are connected to the family. Who are the Murdaughs and why do some locals think they can “make stuff go away?” The Law&Crime Network’s Angenette Levy breaks down the history of the Murdaugh dynasty with historian and genealogist Sara Holstein Graves.

Wonderful woman who touched on fascinating family and character points, as well as their role in the community and internal sense of self as well!! Fascinating, insightful, and mined so much meaning I haven’t found or seen anywhere else. Thank you for the thoroughly enjoyable yet educational and insightful video!
Hmmmm… sounds like a movie I saw once “The Godfather”… you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours…how does “low paying”DA position…have a trust of over 16 million…
the office of solicitor in that county was practically "inherited" for more than a century in that one family, which naturally became exceedingly powerful as a result. I doubt that this "purchase of offices" was constitutional! In the end, this actually turned out to be catastrophic for this family and their business activities…
Beautiful work Ms. Thank you to historian Ms Graves. This has been a quality piece of work. Thank you.
How can I touch base with her. My family is from Barnesville, S.C. And it’s just the hardest thing to get any type of history about them. I only get a blip of someone passes away.
Entire family tree should be razed to the ground. Disgusting animals.
I am signing out. This is taking too long and is not interesting
Does anybody give a flying crap about all the sports programs at USC 100 years ago? And even if any of you do, what does it have to do with legal or illegall activities? Somebody should have edited this woman before letting her go on and on and on. How many bowel movements did Randolph, Sr. have in a week? Holy crap! Shut her up!! Surely this anal retentive woman could tell us that, and it would be as relevant as everything else she includes.
I'm not going to waste my time listening to this big ol' nothing burger.
She's a historian??
So she hasn't heard a single bad thing about this family from anybody in town? Really? Literally what can she tell us aside from some cutsie anecdotal crap she read in a Murdaugh family memoir that she's clearly enamored with..
I feel sorry for Paul and Maggie. Especially Paul. He caught the worst of it. If this was a form of a Karma universal punishment for both of them, it went beyond outweighing their crimes. I'm sorry. They didn't deserve to live out the final moments of their lives in horrifying agony at the hands of someone who protected them for decades. If they deserved anything, they deserved prison. At least in that scenario they'd still be alive.
Single handed distroyed the family name and fortune …thats something
I can say right from the heart the sincerity and passion the historian had on the subject matter. Such a shame American Greed showed its ugly face and just trashed the Murdaugh name. I would love to see the response of the great grandfather and grandfather on this matter. Would bet sparks would fly. Nicely done video too.
The life details of Randolph Sr. presented were too tedious. I lost intestinal & quit watching 5 mins in.
Boring.
Crooks!!!!!!
I wonder why he made the discovery of the pair so quick? It’s his rushed impulsive actions that have convicted him.
I wonder how he actually passed Law School. Thinking he has ADHD which could explain his impulsivity and life of drama and poor decisions that led to him becoming a prolific liar and sociopathic /narcissistic to meet the expectations of his name
These female journalists have shocking voices!
What goes up must comes down
Poor job. Commentator: "Wow, that's interesting."…."Historian" "As far as I could tell there was, …..but I think it was just rumors…" – She was okay, but a snooze, both of them. No intellectual, in depth "stuff" here.
I’ve not watched a lot of this, but has Paul s dna been tested to see if he’s really his fathers son. That would explain why he murdered Paul first, so Maggie could watch.. also why he would murder both of them. He knew he was going to prison, he didn’t want his unfaithful wife and illegitimate son taking away from his real son. That would explain a lot.
