The Little but Powerful: M320 & M203 Grenade Launcher in Action / Shooting

U.S. Paratroopers and Marines practices with the M320 & M203 grenade launchers from short and long range during live-fire exercises. | Video Compilation

â–ºThe M203 is a single-shot 40 mm under-barrel grenade launcher designed to attach to a rifle. It uses the same rounds as the older stand-alone M79 break-action grenade launcher, which utilizes the High-Low Propulsion System to keep recoil forces low. Quite versatile, and compatible with many rifle models, the M203 was originally designed for the U.S. M16 and its variant, the M4 Carbine.

â–ºM320 Grenade Launcher Module (GLM) is the U.S. military’s designation for a new single-shot 40 mm grenade launcher system to replace the M203 for the U.S. Army, while other services will keep using the older M203. The M320 uses the same High-Low Propulsion System as the M203.

In 2004, the Army announced a requirement for a commercial off-the-shelf 40 mm grenade launcher. It had to be more reliable, ergonomic, accurate, and safer than the M203. It had to be able to fire all 40 mm low-velocity grenades, but be loaded from the breech to accept future longer projectiles. Heckler & Koch’s submission was selected in May 2005.

Fielding of the M320 was planned to begin in February 2009, with 71,600 GLMs planned to phase out the M203. The weapon was officially fielded in July 2009 at Fort Bragg by the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

  1. Tbh the M320 is a poor design choice for underbarrel design grenade launcher from what I've seen not a lot of soldiers like it and complain about how uncomfortable it is to hold when it's not being used.

  2. All the info i found on this said it has a better sight for day night acquisition but most men who use the m203 don't use sights because its 2nd nature to fire after a short time using it and they can instinctively tell where the round is going to land and it's side reloading and you can take it off and use it and at the same time lose the ability's to use your rifle it just doesn't seem like reasons to upgrade if anything just throw the new sight on the m203 it had the same range, same accuracy, slightly heavier even more so with its laser, Slightly larger profile.

If someone can link info that isn't some H&K spokesman hyping up his own system and show me a true non-bias party reviewing and testing the weapon so I can see why this was adopted or if this was bureaucracy like how the UCP camo got adopted.

  3. Kind of after my 0311 days but the 203 was just fine, this thing looks a lot heavier and more bulky under the rifle. Stand alone might be practical🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. I feel like the lack of a pistol grip on the m203 mixed with the side loading of the m320 is an ideal mix for a dedicated under barrel launcher. Maybe I'm just being dumb, but I can see benefits to it being ultra compact and lightweight if its already mounted on a rifle, and every gram counts that far down the barrel.

  5. In the Movie M203 explode stronger than the grenade? Which is more powerful m203 or grenade or grenade launcher?🤔 i dont have any idea of these three. I just saw it on the Movie.

  6. When I was shooting mine , I was really good with it because I could gauge distance better than most guys, the sight was on the side of the M16 , if you knew what range you were at
No problem, drop them in your hat all day long.

  9. I watched an episode on forgotten weapons and they classified this rifle as forgotten weapon. A weapon most of us carried during desert storm will never be forgotten.
