34. Good God what kind of person criticizes church volunteers who are trying to help people in this absolutely tragic time? Slow to start or not, the volunteers do have to make it out of their homes thru flooded streets to get to the church and organize the effort. Hey shut down your life and head to Huston so you can show us all what a wonderful person you are and how thing should be done. The church volunteers have been working day and night since 8/29 Tuesday Morning. If your typing critics ask yourself, What have you been doing ??? 42. Not a fan of Joel Osteen or what he preaches. He's more a motivational speaker who moonlights as a pastor. But lacks of facts make people look foolish. His wealth doesn't come from the church. He hasn't taken a salary since 2005. His wealth comes from his books. That's not taking taxpayer money. That's not taking tithes and offering. He's a legit author, just check NY Times Best Sellers list. You can say oh a preacher shouldn't have that much money. But if you not taking offerings or tithes, then why shouldn't he make money. No one is forcing anyone to buy his books. As far as the building and it being open. Kinda impossible to get people to the building when all the roads leading up to it are not passable. That's what the church statement called "Inaccessible". Also consider that if it takes people to operate the facility, were those people in the floods? Were they stuck in attics? Were they looking for loved ones? Were they trying to survive? I get it, people have a bone to pick with Joel because you either hates his message, hate mega churches or think Christianity is sham. I get it. People always look for an enemy. With the publicity this story has gotten you would think Joel Osteen caused Hurricane Harvey.

    There's so many morally righteous people on the media platforms that love to criticize but never give credit when credit is due.

50. Sorry Charlamagne you should shut up. If this was a church on the corner somewhere no one would have went there. But here is this big building so, yes, you should come right on in. No. They suffered flooding. You check the building and make sure there is no mold, no structural damage, no harm that can come to the people who need help.

    Do you remember the Superdome? Yes, it was meant for 50,000+ fans – not for them to live there for weeks on end. Once the maintenance people did their job, the church was able to accept more people. Who is anyone to judge that? You don't let someone tell you when you're house is ready to receive people. The church did it for 3,000 people in 2001. Guess everyone forgot that.

    Instead of people trying to shame this man and his church, how about take your able body self, quick taking photos, and help the people still affected by the flooding. There are surrounding areas that are still underwater. And you worried about the church is doing. The church that you don't own.

    A church who Joel's father started from nothing. He wouldn't dishonor his father's name. His brother Paul is a local doctor who travels to Africa and does charity work. He performs free surgeries and gives medicine to the people that need it. Research. Joel and his wife don't take a salary from the church. The money he acquired comes from his books and speaking engagements.

    Please get off this man's back. While you guys were complaining, the church was working to get the problems solved. Yet people complained without any knowledge of what it takes to maintain and coordinate the efforts such as a shelter. Let it go and put your energy in to helping the people who need it.
