Perhaps I am ignorant to the actual education debate. Bc she mentioned the correlation between mastery & competency to that of improvement advancement in particular subj areas. Franken tried to suggest that they are mutually exclusive In some cases yes. But in others, growth in a particular area demonstrates the level of proficiency. Not always though. Growth can indicate improvement but not proficiency…or a high level of competence. Feels like more bullsh*t IMO. Maybe she deserves DOD maybe not. But it felt like the Senator used his platform & position in the moment to try and humiliate DeVos. Realistically, She should have known such would be the case .

Actually, the mastery of a lesson/topic/study compared to individual growth can be measured with standardized testing along with other, less traditional methods. The question should be what SHE believes to be more important: the demonstration of mastery OR an individual's growth in that particular area

I'm not surprised here. Her intention is to bring down the Common Core, restore power back to the local and state level instead of the federal mandates of the CC, but can't define her take on proficiency vs growth in our school system? Donald Trump don goofed for nominating her when she has no prior knowledge of our education policy. Democrats must be laughing over cigarettes at the fact that when questions like this are imposed on Republicans such as herself who have no experience of an ongoing debate topic that has been around for quite some time, it makes the administration lineup look bad. Lets not forget other nominees who have explaining to do about our medicare in the health department of things… lets focus on how this administration will make sure that our tax payer money will not fall into waste fraud after donating to schools… we need strong honest individuals with prior knowledge of our economy and what can be done to improve our infrastructural facilities. Once this administration is fully installed into the white house, we could be doomed if the dopes Trump nominated get to making decisions.
None of it matters , because most of trumps voters drop out in the eight grade, and those who attend college make money off of them.
