I just tell 'em that I sent my ss# back YEARS ago and demanded a complete refund. I asked one cop if he wanted it so he could send me a check. When he said no, I told him that he didn't need that number then.

The social security number is not an identifying number.
But the cops have files with our full name, next of kin and with that last number they have the ability to sell your information. It's never sold, but their data base like all data is under constant attack by hackers.
I have always felt that my SS# is exactly that, MINE.
Casual conversation we give details away that can hurt us.
Never talk to cops. They put the cuffs on to intimidate you into spilling your guts.
As soon as you're detained just stop talking. It's the most difficult thing to do, but cops know, we will talk ourselves into going to jail, never out of going.
