They pander to the police union to get elected, and agree to the police contracts, and right now they are playing some political kabuki dance talking about re-directing some fund from the LAPD. 150 million only pays for about 15 patrol cars for one year at LAPD. Or 2 helicopters for one year. Not the cars and helicopters themselves, but the cost to man and operate them. The annual budget for LAPD is almost 2 BILLION dollars.

I think police departments should reduce standards beat patrols of plain clothes officers because especially in New York, plainclothes officers are more violent and confrontational. I'm talking standard patrols, not taskforce or stings.
