I know this is old but to clear up the confusion private security guards are still PRIVATE CITIZENS the rules and laws that apply to peace officers or police officers doesn't apply to them. Also the policies vary state by state I work for HSS in Texas and noone has permission to film us or ask us questions unless intentional or noticeable wrong doing is happening as per STATE LAW. You people ARE THE PROBLEM! Again each company policy is varied STATE BY STATE! So the laws in California may be different in Colorado. You try learning every states confidentiality laws and figure out how to answer questions like that. Would you even know? Actually learn what your states laws are and contact the HR department FOR YOUR STATE NOT CORPORATE.
Typical run of the mill security guard companies like Allied Universal or Securitas, is all about bodies. These companies sell guard services and create an illusion and perception of security. Its all about perception and getting contracts not safety and real security. These companies are a joke. Allied Universal is pathetic. They promote so easily because they cant keep anyone worth their salt due to shady business practices.

The funny part is the badges don't have any identifying factors to the employee so he was covering a costume piece. It isn't a number associated with an employee like a police dpt. They are contractor's and policy changes by site. Itt is tailored to each "client" and their desires for their site. They would need a list of policies thousands long. One for every individual building they work in. You guys were absolute assholes to them.

Isn't the whole point of them wearing badges to be so the public can identify them? If policy said they didn't have to display badges, then why even wear them?
Hey. To answer your question about security officers for Allied Universal, different rules and regulations vary by site. Each site has it's own Client who then develops certain policies with the Account manager which is then enforced by stationary security officers. However, you should be able to contact any Allied Universal branch office and ask for their handbook. But, as far as I know, they have to identify themselves as a security officer especially if they are a plains clothes loss prevention security officer and if asked by a citizen, must show their BSIS guard card. Or, you can call police to have them identify the security officer.
HSS is not a government agency. They dont have to provide any Badge or ID to you. They are Private citizens like you.
Call the HR department in CA. What is your issue? She gave you your option. Do it or dont.

BSIS actually doesn't govern whether employees have to identify. The only legal requirement is that armed officers have to have a badge that has the company name and a number unique to the employee. The employee doesn't have to give any other information to the public. Unarmed officers aren't required to wear badges at all. I own a security company in California if you have any other questions.

I'm not sure exactly in which ways the laws differ from state to state, but here in California a security guard is considered a private citizen. This means they are under no obligation to identify themselves to another private citizen, even when in uniform and on the job. They also have no legal authority to detain someone, short of placing them under arrest. Said arrest would be a private person's arrest, more commonly known as a "citizen's arrest".
