NEGATIVE TO GROUND IS FOR SAFETY, TO KEEP THE SPARK AWAY FROM THE BATTERY THAT EXPELS HYDROGEN GAS THAT IS HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE. IT IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OR A BAD STARTER, I KNEW A JUMP WOULD NOT WORK BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS WAS VERY BRIGHT. MIGHT ALSO BE A SECURITY LOCKOUT TOO.
