Every once in a while…a sober operator that knows the law and has a camera gets contacted….and a cop at one of these things can really get his or her feet held to the fire….the camera really levels the playing field..and a reality check at point blank range is a good reminder for the cop now and then…In this case…did they provide a means for someone to turn off legally??
just wondering, have you looked up the requirements for your area on checkpoints, to see if this checkpoint matched all the requirements, like certain types of lighting/signage at certain placements and allowed turnoffs prior to the choke point of no return? some places will require a senior officer on site have all paperwork including written authorization signed off by a senior officer that must be produced when requested with all the guidelines and how the officers will choose vehicles etc etc etc… I know this varies widely by state, but the local PIO should be able to give you the checklist of their requirements if you're not able to find it easily online…
its always fun to test them how accurate they are, often you'll find something little like the first sign posted must be illuminated with its own source, and not simply put under a street light, little details like that can invalidate the entire checkpoint, which can be VERY beneficial for every single lawyer who gets someone who was stopped by it… you can ruin the entire day of court they send these folks to on a little technicality like that… sometimes its fun to stick it to the man for not following his own rules…
P.S. it was stunning how few cars were going through that checkpoint, I wonder how much all those officers cost that night, and was it paid for by local tax dollars, or was a portion of this paid for by one of the numerous federal grants for setting up checkpoints, its fun to chase the dollars and see who got bent over the table to pay for all this likely officer overtime… if it was local tax dollars, you might want to hit the city council meeting and ask if they can make this less costly like doing this with officers who are not getting overtime pay etc etc… and if they can't manage that simple task, perhaps replace them next vote, make them interested in the issue, they love their cush jobs, and until someone gives them a reason to be uncomfortable, why would they care…

Hi there, how did you know exactly where this was going to be? I had heard there would be one in Redondo last night but couldn't find where it would be. I want to (completely sober of course) repeatedly turn off from the checkpoint whole following all traffic rules and record myself confronting the dick on the motorcycle for pulling me over illegally. I'll switch cars to get him to do it multiple times.
