Many years ago, I heard someone suggest that all LEO's be required to carry liability insurance, as a way to keep them accountable for their actions. LEO's that are unable to control their actions, who are sued and convicted for their wrongful actions, causing a monetary payout, would have their insurance premium rates increased. Habitual offenders would get dropped by their ins. carrier, and any LEO's unable to obtain liability insurance, would no longer be able to work in the field of Law Enforcement. This seemed like a great way to weed out any of the bad LEO's, and to keep all the good ones!
