  1. 10 to 15 feet should be more than enough space for these assholes to do their jobs….for most police stops. I agree, their is no sense recording them if you're too far. One other thing i hate is when these pigs shine their flash light at the photographer to stop people from seeing their crimes. Legislative action is needed to keep the pigs in line. NEVER TRUST POLICE, EVER!

  2. Of course, it is all about the camera and the cops not wishing to be filmed. We all know it and the cops know we know it and they do not care. It takes morals to care.

That said, cops have an easy out – the 21-foot rule. Basically, it has been proven that a person with a knife that is within 21 feet of a cop can run toward the cop and cut him before the cop can get his gun out and shoot. Also, if a guy knows how to throw a knife the situation is even worse. So cops will simply say we do not know the cameraman (unlike live LA) and the cameraman might have a knife or a gun, we do not know. So we make unknown people stand back at least 21 feet perhaps more – for our safety.

  3. Great job David Boran. You just got a huge paycheck from the citizens of Dallas, via the Dallas police department. Thank you Dallas. I will plan to move to Dallas soon, so i can be the next wellfare recipient via the Dallas PD. Woohoo!!!

  4. I would say start getting arrested doing what you want to do (as in filming close to the officers). Then argue the point in court.

  5. When an action is not illegal then the action is lawful, where as the cops action of battery, and assault, and unlawful detainment, under what enactment (having a hand in a pocket is not a crime). A man, or a person going about a lawful activity can not be construed to being a crime.
He was not obliged to follow an unlawful order, he was not suspected of any crime he was merely going about a lawful activity.

    >indoctrination that "enforcers" of "law" are "good" and for "your safety" is a daily insidiousness. "Enforcers" of "law" have murdered hundreds of millions of people over the last 120yrs. They went from Peace to "enforcer". ~a mob "enforcer" is a member or associate of organized crime or corrupt political organization that is (responsible) -for handling those who do not go along with organization; policies, rules, and deals. "enforcement" often involves threats and/or actions of collecting fees, violence, beatings, kidnapping, and murder.~ Just like "enforcers" of "law" do every single day. > enforcer (n.)
1570s, "one who compels, constrains, or urges," agent noun from enforce. Underworld slang meaning "violent intimidator" is from 1934, U.S. underworld slang. > enforce (v.)
mid-14c., "to drive by physical force; to try, attempt, strive; to fortify, strengthen a place;" late 14c. as "exert force, compel; make stronger, reinforce; strengthen an argument; grow stronger, become violent," from Old French enforcier "strengthen, reinforce; use force (on), offer violence (to); oppress; violate, rape" (12c.) or a native formation from en- (1) "make, put in" + force (n.). Meaning "compel obedience to" (a law, etc.) is from 1640s. Related: Enforced; enforcing.
    > force (n.)
    c. 1300, "physical strength," from Old French force "force, strength; courage, fortitude; violence, power, compulsion" (12c.), from Vulgar Latin *fortia (source also of Old Spanish forzo, Spanish fuerza, Italian forza), noun use of neuter plural of Latin fortis "strong, mighty; firm, steadfast; brave, bold" (see fort). Meanings "power to convince the mind" and "power exerted against will or consent" are from mid-14c. Meaning "body of armed men, a military organization" first recorded late 14c. (also in Old French). Physics sense is from 1660s; force field attested by 1920. Related: Forces.
    force (v.)
    c. 1300, forcen, also forsen, "exert force upon (an adversary)," from Old French forcer "conquer by violence," from force "strength, power, compulsion" (see force (n.)). From early 14c. as "to violate (a woman), to rape." From c. 1400 as "compel by force, constrain (someone to do something)." Meaning "bring about by unusual effort" is from 1550s. Card-playing sense is from 1746 (whist). Related: Forced; forcing.

  7. They earned every bullet coming at them. I have no more sympathy and or care for mercy anymore. 1 dead tyrant or 100,000 is all the same to me. They have proven they are a domestic terrorist organization operating under their own flag (thin blue line) and their actions show their intent. And they are daily showing their distain for the "subjects"…

  8. IMPORTANT UPDATES: As mentioned earlier, the First Circuit Court of Appeals covering Massachusetts declared the state’s ban on recording police to be unconstitutional. In May, The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals covering Illinois also declared the state’s harsh recording ban unconstitutional, ordering authorities to stop enforcing it. In November, The Supreme Court of the United States rejected Illinois’ petition to appeal the Seventh Circuit Court’s ruling.

  9. The law in 38 states plainly allows citizens to record police, as long as you don’t physically interfere with their work. Police might still unfairly harass you, detain you, or confiscate your camera. They might even arrest you for some catchall misdemeanor such as obstruction of justice or disorderly conduct. But you will not be charged for illegally recording police.

Twelve states—California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Washington—require the consent of all parties for you to record a conversation. But do not despair if you live in these states: All but 2 —Massachusetts and Illinois—have an “expectation of privacy provision” to their all-party laws that courts have ruled does not apply to on-duty police (or anyone in public). In other words, it’s technically legal in those 48 states to openly record on-duty police.
