(6) To park a vehicle backed in within the Downtown Parking Garage, and any areas as designated by the city manager. Vehicles that are parked in electric charging areas in the Downtown Parking Garage, may park back-in, only if the electric charging point is not reachable;

Correction. The backing only applies to parking garages. But technically their pd is a parking garage facility per signage. And they charge to park at pd.

  1. Insane! I have backed into parking spots since I began driving. It is significantly safer than pulling into a spot and backing out.
    Also. As a firefighter, that's the only way to park so we are ready for response!

  2. I have literally I can be more articulate in my adjectives what scares me the most a goddamn police officer and throw you in jail and you have to wait Magistrate Judge and love this how dare you judge Small Town Texas

  3. Looked up cocoa beach fl parking website (yeah… bored on a slow night)
    it does note 'no back in parking in garage' so guess it only applies to the parking garage but no updated ordinance is referenced; fine is $35. Search of city ordinance pages did not show an up to date parking ordinance to see the specific wording.
    As noted with the Tesla, back in is necessary for the charging station. From the image ~8.20-8.50, it may be necessary for handicap vehicles to back in for side access (example #425 passenger side) or the driver. Technically, they should post on the signage a back in exemption. (would require city officials with common sense lol)
    Under payment #10, did state that handicap parking is exempt from payment per cited FL code. Does not clarify if no payment is registered when entering the parking slot number in the payment kiosk. Hopefully it will display $0.

    At 1.40, may be an air quality meter so the government can say you need extra chemicals in your gasoline to reduce emissions. Lived in a town that was in a low spot and cold winters "air quality" would be bad. The instrument was located at the city parking garage and near a traffic light, city bldg, court, and state office building. The one spot in town where there was the most idling vehicles.

  4. You got to the bottom of the case! Not enough signs specifying exceptions for Teslas! Give this man a medal. Also, the backed-in police cars were not in the prohibited "No-Backing-Parking" garage, as pointed out by the officer immediately. But your bias clouded your brain so you could not see that. The ones who actually enforce parking don't enforce the actual issue you had a problem with. This investigation of yours will surely lead to a "except for this spot" sign! Dangerous work, but someone has to do it. Bravo.

  5. Many of the businesses that I go to REQUIRE that you back INTO a spot. (It is much safer than backing out.) This is a requirement at many mines and refineries. Also, tactically you SHOULD back into a spot. It's much easier to pull away from danger than it is to back out. Stupid law all around.
