Why Police and City Administrations Need to GET A CLUE

Sometimes the greatest barrier to accomplishing humanizing the badge comes not from people who distrust the police but the people in charge of them.

I’m not advocating for immoral, unethical or illegal activity on or offline and I’m also not advocating purposely disregarding policies; I’m just begging for some common sense policies and practices that actually open up the door for officers to engage their communities in ways that can inform and influence them and bridge that gap whether it is real or perceived.

THANKS!

  1. Mike the uninformed cop just broke the law. At 5:025:10 , and again at 10:24 . By law, you can only use 5 seconds of someone else's video or film, intellectual property rights. I need to see your licensing agreement with Paramount, step out of the car please. Now, dance like a monkey, stop resisting. That's it, you pissed me off, you're going to jail, and I'm helping myself to your property. The constitution says, I have the right to travel, unmolested. No state nor police officer can prohibit me from using the roads. So why do cops think they have the right to pull you over and molest you??? I like that he says he's ignorant, but willing to learn. Cops should not be interacting with the community nor on social media. It's sort of like the separation of church and state. In law, there is what's called, class of citizen. The only reason a cop would be in uniform, in a social environment, is for an ego trip. They should be going into those "no go zones" they're too afraid to go into. Instead they'd rather show nurses who's boss and bully you around for going 2 mph over the speed limit.

  2. You get paid by the government, then you must expect your statements, even if not endorsed by the government, reflect on the government. I've got no good answer for it though I would suggest any retired police should produce vidoes or such because then one is finally free.

  3. Mike, your channel makes a difference specially in your community. If a cop would pull me over, I would be nervous and maybe a bit apprehensive even if I have done nothing wrong. If you pulled me over, I would be tickled pink. My attitude would be totally different. I would definitely want to get a selfie with you. You are no longer that "cop" who pulled me over but a member of the community who caught me doing something wrong and want to set me streight and that's ok. I think this humanizing of cops would make for less aggressive interaction with the population. It's goes both ways. Social media shrink the community. President Trump learned that quickly. His tweets do touch people directly. No press, no media. His words to your eyes. There is no degree of separation. We get the message in our face and we can reply and make our feelings known to his face. Keep it up, you're doing good here.

  4. Hi Mike, I love your channel. Keep going, but if I might make a suggestion, lose the pig from your intro page. Put a flag, put a badge, put a pretty flower, but lose the pig. You don't need to perpetuate this cop name calling. If my neighbour was a cop, I would have a hard time making friends with him if I called him names. You are taking steps to humanize cops. Don't dehumanize by making reference to animals. Respect!

  5. I just applied for my local PD, and my first step was deleting all previous social media. There wasn’t necessarily anything bad on it, but i just figure I can’t remember what 13 year old me posted, why take the chance. Been Facebook free for 2 weeks, and it feels amazing.

  6. My appt. Mngr. is a former cop from Texas (I think he said El Passo) anyway, I asked why he got out… He said it got too political, and I he indicated it was not up for discussion.

  7. Has being on social media and doing videos affected interacting with the public on duty when someone recognizes you? If it has, has it been a mostly positive or negative response from people?

  8. It's the social backlash they're worried about. If someone in a position of authority or even government says something that could be misconstrued, (everything falls under that category), and they start getting calls, journalists showing up, or even lawyers calling them, then it's a problem. Generally I think they're just trying to avoid it.

It probably hasn't happened that much, but I've seen at least a few major backlashes in Canada that literally spanned the content in media coverage. Though not with respect to police officers. They're always people that have social media of some kind and get busted for extremist views expressed that someone connects back to them, or which they just express as an opinion. Politicians mostly.

I understand it in principle. It's quite possible if it was widely accepted then you would end up with Officers expressing themselves in ways that make the Police look bad.

And then you have to consider people are getting fired for opinions expressed on Social Media in even regular careers today.

  9. In NYC, there were police in uniforms, dancing with half nude women in the streets, during some event. Their police agency obviously didn't care.

I thought that was in bad taste and should not happen because officers should not advertise such things.

But a police officer in uniform, taking a pic with family is awesome. You all should be allowed to show forth good behavior as such.

  10. Till I found you, Donut Operator and Officer 401.
All I saw on YouTube was a lot of negative programs of Police.
So I'm really grateful for what you guys are doing in improving the image of Law Enforcement.
Above all thank you for what you all do each day at work.
Truly, God bless and protect you and your families.

  11. 4:56 – That look on your face sums it up in a nutshell – and I agree with that face, sir.  Don't forget the non-sworn; they're bound to the same standards in most cases.

  12. @mikethecop most older law enforcement people can't even effectively use a computer or the internet in my experience. They hunt and peck, and think facebook and youtube encompass the entire internet.

  13. You forgot to mention there will always be corrupt pigs and pigs who get off on making people submit to their will you forgot to mention those people f*** you Mike the pig every time one of your f**** people comments to one of my comments I'm going to leave a new one for you

  14. I saw a video where man was chalking the sidewalks and got 90 days in jail for it. The pig that arrested him for chalking the sidewalks was arrested and tried for rape he got 90 days to. Where's the Justice in that Mike the pig tell us some more fairy tales.

  15. Thank you for being you. Between you and officer 401, I feel that you guys are doing a GREAT job for he badge. Keep up THE AWESOME job.

  16. You are such a positive inspiration, and a great representative of most of the officers out there. Keep up the good work!

  17. Very good video, and it raises a huge question in my mind. Mike, have you ever read Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series? Especially the books featuring Samuel Vimes and the City Watch? The things you've covered here are also covered in the books. "Social media" is a thing Vimes seems to have mastered… even though the bulk of the books were written before social media was even a thing.

  18. Your definitely an ambassador of the new age. I'm glad you are out there 😎.

A sense of humor used to be a good reason for a UI test and a week on the beach.

  19. So they couldn't streak in uniform, obviously. But what they could do is run through the quad wearing their hat, their belt, and nothing else. That would probably get even more attention than just normal streaking would.

  20. Great job Mikey.
Very well said. One of your best vlogs ever.
    I criticize when needed,
    and I praise when deserved.
    This video deserves a
    “Hip hip hooray”
    Keep up the great work.
    Peace

  21. Except for being able to carry a gun legally wouldn’t want to a cop. But thank God their are people who are…….

  22. Given where I work, I don't care to have anyone know who I am or what I do, but I'm glad you are willing to do what you're doing. I'll try to catch you if you come back to Otero.

  23. So people's lives better when cops are policing for profit. cops don't make people's lives better let's be honest about a lot of things they show up 15 to 20 minutes late and then they harass the people who called them and then when you try to get them dressed somebody said I didn't see it no crime yeah great job
